rhaii-cluster-validation: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

rhaii-cluster-validation CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from opendatahub-io/rhaii-cluster-validation. It costs 1,904 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for a command-line tool that checks whether a Kubernetes cluster is ready for AI and machine-learning workloads. It covers the project structure, build commands, tests, and its hardware, network, and RDMA checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build, install, test, format, lint, or containerize the validator, or to understand how it checks GPU clusters across supported platforms.
Why use it?
It explains how to work on the validator and how to verify changes without first piecing together the project’s operating rules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01904 $0.01904
Opus 5 $0.00952 $0.00952
Sonnet 5 $0.00381 $0.00381
Haiku 4.5 $0.00190 $0.00190

Security

Grade A, and why

rhaii-cluster-validation CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

kubectl plugin (kubectl rhaii-validate) for validating GPU cluster readiness for AI/ML workloads. Runs hardware and network checks on GPU nodes via privileged Kubernetes Jobs. Auto-detects GPU vendor (NVIDIA/AMD), platform (AKS/EKS/CoreWeave/OCP), and cluster topology.

Binary: rhaii-validator. kubectl plugin name: kubectl-rhaii_validate.

Epic: INFERENG-4707

Build and Test Commands

make build # CGO_ENABLED=0 go build → bin/rhaii-validator
make install # Build + install as kubectl plugin to /usr/local/bin
make test # go test ./... -v
make lint # golangci-lint run ./...
make fmt # go fmt ./...
make container # Build validator container (Dockerfile.dev)
make container-rdma # Build tools container (tools/Dockerfile.dev)

Run a single test:

go test ./pkg/checks/rdma/ -run TestParseLoopbackBWOutput -v

Architecture

Two Execution Modes

The binary runs in two modes controlled by subcommands:

  1. Controller mode (gpu, network, rdma, all, etc.): Runs on the user's machine. Creates K8s namespace, RBAC, deploys Jobs to GPU nodes, collects results from pod logs (JSON), prints report, cleans up. Orchestrated by pkg/controller/controller.go.

  2. Agent mode (run — hidden subcommand): Runs inside per-node Job pods. Executes checks directly (nvidia-smi injected by GPU runtime, sysfs read via privileged mode), outputs JSON report to stdout (progress to stderr). The controller parses JSON from pod logs. Orchestrated by pkg/runner/runner.go.

Key Interfaces

  • checks.Check (pkg/checks/check.go): Per-node check. Returns checks.Result with Status (PASS/WARN/FAIL/SKIP). Implementations live in pkg/checks/gpu/, pkg/checks/rdma/, pkg/checks/networking/, pkg/checks/crd/, pkg/checks/operator/.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
