What is assistant-plugins CLAUDE.md?

Repository instructions for maintaining the orq-ai/assistant-plugins project. They explain Semantic Versioning, where versions are stored, and how plugin manifests and changelog entries must be updated.

Use them when adding or removing skills or commands, changing plugin behavior, updating versions, writing changelog entries, and validating manifests.

They prevent the four plugin manifest versions from getting out of sync and clarify which changes require patch, minor, or major version bumps.

Versioning

This repo follows Semantic Versioning. Version is tracked in 4 plugin manifests that must stay in sync:

Exception: removing shipped content that was never the canonical surface (e.g. stale duplicates tracked outside skills/) is a PATCH, not MAJOR — cleanup is not a breaking change.

How to bump

Run tests/scripts/set-version.sh X.Y.Z — it updates version in all 4 plugin.json files (same value). This is the only place a version is edited; the git tag/release is created from it on merge.
Add an entry to CHANGELOG.md under a new ## [X.Y.Z] - YYYY-MM-DD heading. Use ### Added / Changed / Fixed / Removed sections.
Run tests/scripts/validate-plugin-manifests.sh — passes.
Commit with message: chore: bump version to X.Y.Z.

Releases

Merging to main runs .github/workflows/release.yml: it creates GitHub release v<version> from root plugin.json, with the matching CHANGELOG.md section as notes. No version bump means no release. The CHANGELOG entry (step 2 above) is therefore required, and skills-ci fails a PR without one. orq-trace (marketplace.json) is not released separately.

When to bump: in the same PR as the change, whenever it alters shipped content (skills/, manifests, mcp.json, commands). Merging that PR is the release, so bump once per PR, never in a follow-up commit on main. Skip the bump for changes that ship nothing (CI, tests/, maintainer docs like this file); they merge without a release.
