thm-claude-kit: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

thm-claude-kit CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from pashki975/thm-claude-kit. It costs 337 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for authorized TryHackMe security exercises, covering the attack machine, target limits, available tools, scan records, and reporting style.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it during TryHackMe rooms to plan reconnaissance, run approved security tools, record ports and credentials, and choose the next investigation steps.
Why use it?
It keeps testing inside the assigned practice target and favors non-destructive investigation before intrusive actions. It also makes findings easier to track by requiring saved scan output and updated notes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00337 $0.00337
Opus 5 $0.00169 $0.00169
Sonnet 5 $0.00067 $0.00067
Haiku 4.5 $0.00034 $0.00034

Measured 6d ago against content hash 7fb99df88c3e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

thm-claude-kit CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

TryHackMe Attack Machine Context

Environment

  • Kali, or any Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux with the offensive tooling installed
  • Tools: nmap, ffuf, gobuster, nikto, whatweb, tshark, sqlmap, hydra, netcat, enum4linux, smbclient, john, hashcat
  • Connected to THM via OpenVPN (tun0)

Scope & Rules

  • ONLY test the active target IP(s) listed in the current room's notes.md
  • Never scan or touch anything outside the assigned target
  • This is authorized CTF practice on TryHackMe boxes only

Workflow preferences

  • Always save raw tool output to ./scans/-.txt
  • Keep notes.md updated with findings as we go (open ports, services, creds, flags)
  • After every scan, summarize findings and propose the next 2-3 concrete steps
  • Prefer non-destructive enumeration first; ask before anything intrusive (brute force, exploit)
  • Wordlists live in /usr/share/wordlists/ (seclists, rockyou.txt)

Output style

  • Be terse. Show the command, key findings, next step.

Approach — run the loop

For every room, follow the thm-trainer skill (classify -> observe -> hypothesize -> test -> decide). Classify the room and name the goal BEFORE running any tool. Start a room with /start (paste the room description; do not pass a URL — THM is behind auth). When stuck (repeating actions with no new info), stop and reclassify rather than scanning harder.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
