effect-cli-tui: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

effect-cli-tui CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from PaulJPhilp/effect-cli-tui. It costs 6,645 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for developing the effect-cli-tui TypeScript project with Bun, a JavaScript runtime and package manager. They document prerequisites, development commands, code checks, tests, and formatting.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to build, test, lint, format, type-check, and validate the project. They also provide commands for running one test file or watching tests.
Why use it?
They give an agent one repository-specific source of truth instead of leaving it to guess which commands or package manager to use. They also describe a complete validation sequence before changes are considered ready.

Instructions file for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: the file is CLAUDE.md. Also seen: mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

This is PaulJPhilp/effect-cli-tui's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on effect-cli-tui itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything effect-cli-tui configures →

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/paul/Projects/.cursor/rules/EFFECT_BEGINNER_PATTERNS.md.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.06645 $0.06645
Opus 5 $0.03322 $0.03322
Sonnet 5 $0.01329 $0.01329
Haiku 4.5 $0.00664 $0.00664

Security

Grade A, and why

effect-cli-tui CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Expected in a hook, worth knowing in a rule or an instructions file.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

Prerequisites

bun is required to work with this codebase.

  • Install: https://bun.sh
  • Version: Node 20+ compatible
  • Commands: Use bun instead of npm, pnpm, or yarn

All commands in this guide use bun (not pnpm/npm).

Quick Commands

Build & Development

bun run build # Build with tsup
bun test # Run all tests once
bun test:watch # Run tests in watch mode
bun test:ui # Run tests with interactive UI
bun test:coverage # Run tests with coverage report
bun run lint # Run ESLint
bun run format # Format code with Prettier
bun run type-check # Run TypeScript type checking (non-emitting)

Full Validation Pipeline

bun run type-check && bun run lint && bun test && bun run build

Single Test File

bun test __tests__/colors.test.ts
bun test -- --watch __tests__/integration.test.ts

Code Style and Best Practices

Naming Conventions

  • Use descriptive variable names with auxiliary verbs: isLoading, hasError, canExecute, shouldDisplay
  • Use lowercase with dashes for directory names: src/core, src/interactive, __tests__/integration
  • Use PascalCase for classes and components: TUIHandler, EffectCLI
  • Use camelCase for functions and variables: displayJson, createPrompt, buildWorkflow

Code Organization

  • Structure files with exported main exports first, then subcomponents/helpers
  • Use modularization over code duplication — extract reusable logic into separate utility functions or modules
  • Keep functions single-responsibility — each function should do one thing well
  • Use JSDoc comments for all exported functions and methods to improve IDE intellisense
/**
 * Display a message with optional styling.
 *
 * @param message - The message to display
 * @param options - Display configuration options
 * @returns Effect that displays the message
 *
 * @example
 * ```ts
 * yield* _(display('Hello!', { type: 'success' }))
 * ```
 */
export const display = (message: string, options?: DisplayOptions): Effect<void> => {
  // implementation
}

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
