Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.04559 $0.04559
Opus 5.5 $0.01824 $0.01824
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00912 $0.00912
Haiku 4.5 $0.00456 $0.00456

Security

Grade A, and why

deno-mcp-template AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Deno MCP Template Development Guide

Deno version: 2.9.8 (pinned in CI)

Build/Development Commands

Start: deno task start Dev mode: deno task dev Check formatting, lint, types and tests: deno task ci (it rebuilds static/mcp-apps/ first, then only checks, so run deno fmt first) Rebuild MCP App HTML (after editing mcp-ui/): deno task build:mcp-ui (formats, lints, type-checks and tests mcp-ui first; Deno installs npm deps from mcp-ui/deno.json imports into mcp-ui/node_modules using mcp-ui/deno.lock; no Node.js) Tests with coverage: deno task test:coverage Benchmarks: deno task bench MCPB bundle (compile all platforms + pack to dist/server.mcpb): deno task mcpb:all; deno task mcpb:pack repacks existing binaries; manifest in static/mcpb-manifest.json Strip the example features: deno task strip (--dry-run to preview), checked by .github/workflows/strip.yml. A new demo file outside src/mcp/{tools,resources,prompts}/, or a test that uses a demo, must be added to DELETE in scripts/strip-demo.ts Rename the template: deno task setup, checked by .github/workflows/setup.yml. A new file with a template name must be added to FILES_TO_UPDATE in scripts/setup-template.ts

Architecture

src/mcp/ vs src/app/

  • src/mcp/ — MCP server: prompts, resources, tools, apps, server wiring.
  • src/app/ — Host shell: transport bootstrapping, HTTP (Hono on Deno.serve), lifecycle, permissions preflight, KV, signals.

Protocol and statelessness

The server speaks MCP protocol revision 2026-07-28 (@modelcontextprotocol/server 2.x) and is stateless: no sessions, no initialize, no MCP tasks. Both transports use legacy: "reject" by default, so 2025-era clients get an unsupported-version error. The one exception is --legacy-stdio (MCP_LEGACY_STDIO=true), which the MCP Bundle passes because Claude Desktop speaks 2025-11-25: serveStdio then uses legacy: "serve" and pins a 2025-era connection to one instance from the same factory. HTTP always rejects. On such a connection the SDK fulfils inputRequired with real server-to-client requests and src/app/stdio.ts answers resources/subscribe, so handlers need no era checks; do not read ctx.mcpReq.envelope for anything a 2025-era client needs. Every HTTP request carries MCP-Protocol-Version and Mcp-Method headers (plus Mcp-Name for tools/call, prompts/get, resources/read).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
