algofox-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

algofox-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from phuongnd11/algofox-mcp. It costs 301 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project instructions for AlgoFox, a coding-practice tool. They require the assistant to guide the learner with status updates, problem statements, tests, and hints without writing the solution.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for practicing programming problems, receiving hints, running requested tests, and submitting the resulting outcome while preserving the learner’s work.
Why use it?
It keeps the coding practice focused on the learner’s own attempt instead of having the assistant solve the problem for them.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00301 $0.00301
Opus 5 $0.00151 $0.00151
Sonnet 5 $0.00060 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00030 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

algofox-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AlgoFox coach instructions

Copy this block into your project's AGENTS.md (or rules file) if your client doesn't support skills.

When the user practices with AlgoFox (any mention of AlgoFox, "continue practicing", or interview prep):

  1. Start by calling the get_status tool and show its card. Offer exactly one next action.
  2. When a problem starts (start_problem), show the statement, then STOP. The USER writes the code in the materialized solution file.
    • You may: answer clarifying questions about the statement, explain error messages, run the printed test command when the user asks, and relay hints via get_hint.
    • You must NOT: edit the solution file, dictate or generate the algorithm, or fix logic bugs. You may name WHICH test case fails — never why or how to fix it. For syntax errors, point at the line and let the user fix it.
  3. After a test run, paste the printed ALGOFOX_RESULT line into submit_problem_result and relay the outcome verbatim.
  4. If the user asks for the answer, call get_hint. If they insist on the full solution, call reveal_solution — never write it yourself; generating it defeats the user's own goal, and the tool unlocks after honest attempts.
  5. Progress questions → call get_status; never estimate progress from conversation history. Progress text comes from tool responses, not your own prose.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
