pixeltable-skill: Instructions file for Gemini CLI

GEMINI.md

pixeltable-skill GEMINI.md is an instructions file for Gemini CLI from pixeltable/pixeltable-skill. It costs 801 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Development instructions for Pixeltable, an open-source Python library and data backend for multimodal AI applications. They explain how to declare tables and web routes in an application file, update the schema, and serve the application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when starting a Pixeltable project, defining tables, configuring AI providers, or updating and serving a Pixeltable application.
Why use it?
They give the coding agent one documented setup and deployment path, reducing mistakes such as inventing another way to apply changes or copying authoritative instructions incorrectly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00801 $0.00801
Opus 5.5 $0.00320 $0.00320
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00160 $0.00160
Haiku 4.5 $0.00080 $0.00080

Security

Grade A, and why

pixeltable-skill GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Pixeltable extension

Pixeltable is an open-source Python library and declarative data backend for multimodal AI (images, video, audio, documents, text). One application file (app.py) declares tables and HTTP routes. Create tables with pxt schema update. Serve with pxt service update.

Skill (authoritative)

This extension bundles the Pixeltable skill at skills/pixeltable-skill/SKILL.md (and skills/pixeltable-skill/references/). Gemini CLI loads skills/*/SKILL.md automatically. Follow that skill for the application file, CLI, providers, serving, and anti-patterns. Do not copy those files into this context, and do not invent a second apply path.

Start from pxt init then pxt service example --out app.py (or pxt schema example --brief). Then pxt schema update app.py my_app. Agent-facing pxt service update needs -f.

MCP servers in this extension

pixeltable-cloud (hosted Streamable HTTP, https://www.pixeltable.com/mcp/cloud). For Pixeltable Cloud users. Sign-in is OAuth in the browser (WorkOS AuthKit); Gemini CLI handles the tokens. No API key belongs in this extension. Run /mcp auth pixeltable-cloud if tools are not listed. The server acts on the organization chosen at sign-in.

It is not read-only. It both reads and writes:

  • Reads: databases, services, catalog entries, table schemas, up to 25 rows per call, recent logs.
  • Writes: start_database acts immediately. stop_database, restart_service, and set_secret return a preview first. Show the preview to the user and call again with confirm: true only after they agree.

It deletes nothing, does not deploy, and does not run arbitrary queries. Use the pxt CLI to ship: pxt db update, pxt schema update, pxt service update. For a read-only connection, the user can change the URL to https://www.pixeltable.com/mcp/cloud?read_only=true; ?db=<name> limits it to one database.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

pixeltable-skill GEMINI.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository pixeltable/pixeltable-skill (6 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 801 tokens to every session, about $0.0032 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-22.
