CLAUDE.md

autorename-pdf CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from ptmrio/autorename-pdf. It costs 1,407 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for AutoRename-PDF, a Python tool that uses optical character recognition (OCR) and AI to rename PDF files using their company, date, and document type.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps developers run, test, package, and integrate PDF renaming on Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Why use it?
It explains how to set up the project, run it safely, undo renames, test it, and use its development or production AI commands.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01407 $0.01407
Opus 5 $0.00704 $0.00704
Sonnet 5 $0.00281 $0.00281
Haiku 4.5 $0.00141 $0.00141

Measured today against content hash 6cc143f7f18c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

autorename-pdf CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AutoRename-PDF

PDF auto-renamer using AI + OCR. Extracts company name, date, and document type from PDFs, renames to YYYYMMDD COMPANY DOCTYPE.pdf.

Development Setup

Always use a virtual environment. Never install dependencies globally.

python -m venv venv
venv\Scripts\activate # Windows
# source venv/bin/activate # Linux/macOS
pip install -r requirements.txt
pip install -r requirements-dev.txt # for testing

Commands

All commands assume the venv is activated.

  • Run: python autorename-pdf.py [options] <files_or_folders>
  • Dry run: python autorename-pdf.py --dry-run <files_or_folders>
  • Undo: python autorename-pdf.py --undo
  • Test: pytest tests/ -v --cov
  • Lint: python -m ruff check .
  • Build EXE: python build.py
  • Install deps: pip install -r requirements.txt

AI Tool Integration

  • .claude/ is committed to git — skills, agents, and shared settings are available to all developers.
  • settings.local.json is gitignored (personal overrides).
  • Skill (dev): /rename-pdfs <path> — Python source, requires venv. For development and macOS/Linux.
  • Skill (prod): /rename-pdfs-exe <path> — compiled EXE, Windows only. For production/automation.
  • Both skills dry-run first, then ask for confirmation before renaming.
  • CLI JSON mode: python autorename-pdf.py rename <path> --output json
  • Exit codes: 0=success, 1=error, 2=usage, 3=config, 4=no files, 5=partial, 10=provider, 11=auth
  • Subcommands: rename, undo, config show, config validate
  • Primary usage: GUI app (Tauri) or Windows context menu via compiled EXE from release ZIP.

Architecture

Functional Python (no classes). Modules prefixed with _ are internal:

Module Purpose
autorename-pdf.py Entry point, CLI (argparse), orchestration
_ai_processing.py Multi-provider AI: native structured parse (OpenAI/Anthropic) or instructor (Gemini/xAI/Ollama)
_pdf_utils.py Text extraction (pdfplumber), image rendering (pypdfium2), PaddleOCR bridge
_paddleocr_bridge.py Subprocess bridge script for PaddleOCR venv
_document_processing.py Company harmonization (rapidfuzz), renaming, undo log
_config_loader.py YAML v2 config loading, schema validation, defaults
_utils.py Filename validation, constants

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
