openclaw-multi-agent-kit AGENTS.md

Repository instructions for OpenClaw templates and documentation, including shared rules, project defaults, and local overrides.

In plain words
What is it for?
Checking required instruction files, maintaining architecture documentation, verifying configuration keys, and preserving placeholders and file-format rules.
Why use it?
They reduce mistakes when editing files that are copied into other workspaces, such as exposing secrets, using real values, or missing required documentation updates.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00470 $0.00470
Opus 5 $0.00235 $0.00235
Sonnet 5 $0.00094 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00047 $0.00047

Measured yesterday against content hash 7cf964a2769c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

openclaw-multi-agent-kit AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

READ ./.agents/AGENTS.base.md BEFORE ANYTHING (skip if missing).

READ ./AGENTS.local.md AFTER this file if present (machine-only overrides, git-ignored).

Work style: telegraph; noun-phrases ok; drop grammar; min tokens. Repo-specific hard rules only. Shared rules (Reviews, PR/CI, Git, Runtime Safety, Workflows) live in AGENTS.base.md.

Core

  • Template/docs-only repo — nothing executes; everything is markdown/JSON/JSONC copied into OpenClaw workspaces
  • Public repo — no secrets, tokens, internal IPs, or machine-specific paths in tracked files
  • docs/architecture.md carries the structure tree + platform concepts — update it whenever files, structure, or config keys change (was CLAUDE.md's job)
  • Canonical OpenClaw docs = docs.openclaw.ai — verify config keys against the live reference before editing schema-related templates

Project Defaults (repo-specific)

  • Model-agnostic: never pin model ids in templates or example configs; agents inherit the runtime default
  • YAML frontmatter at line 1 of every SOUL.md / SKILL.md — never prepend H1s or blockquotes above it
  • Placeholders stay placeholders: [Your ... Name], YOUR_*, {WORKSPACE} — never real values
  • examples/full-team.json (10 core agents) and examples/minimal-team.json (3) must stay in sync, validate as JSON, and omit model fields
  • Multi-agent topics: ALL bots requireMention: true; orchestrator enabled: false on topics owned by others
  • Cross-agent flows follow docs/inter-agent-handoff-standard.md (HANDOFF/ACK/DONE/BLOCKED)
  • Skills format: YAML frontmatter (name, description, version) + markdown body with ## Install
  • Editing checklists (what else to touch when adding agents/docs/skills/config keys): docs/architecture.md § Editing guidelines
  • INSTRUCTIONS.md = single source of truth for the AI-readable setup flow

Workflows (repo-specific)

  • No release pipeline (docs-only kit) — no release command; curate CHANGELOG per landed series via changelog
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
