picdefenseio-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

picdefenseio-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from rchanllc/picdefenseio-mcp-server. It costs 732 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for working on the PicDefense.io MCP server, a program that gives AI agents access to image-analysis tools. It explains the server structure, authentication, transports, and how to add tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the PicDefense.io API client, adding or updating image tools, working with the command-line or hosted server, or checking how API tokens are handled.
Why use it?
It gives contributors a shared description of where client code, tool handlers, server setup, and authentication live. This reduces guesswork when maintaining the repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00732 $0.00732
Opus 5 $0.00366 $0.00366
Sonnet 5 $0.00146 $0.00146
Haiku 4.5 $0.00073 $0.00073

Security

Grade A, and why

picdefenseio-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Guidance for Claude Code when working in this repository.

What this is

An MCP server wrapping the PicDefense.io API v2 (https://app.picdefense.io/api/v2, spec mirrored in src/swagger.json). It exposes 11 image-analysis tools to AI agents over two transports. TypeScript, @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, zod, Docker.

Architecture

  • src/client.tsPicDefenseClient: one method per API endpoint, native fetch, 30s timeout, sends X-API-TOKEN: USERID:APIKEY, unwraps the {status, message, error, data} envelope and throws on status:-1 / non-2xx (e.g. insufficient credits, unauthorized).
  • src/tools/*.ts — one file per tool: exports a zod schema + a handler (client, params) => string. The 10 image tools share tools/_shared.ts (urlSchema, format).
  • src/server-factory.tscreateServer(client) registers all 11 tools on a fresh McpServer via server.tool(...). This is the single source of truth for tool names/descriptions — add new tools here.
  • src/index.ts — stdio transport (npm bin, local Claude Desktop use). Token from --api-token/-t or PICDEFENSE_API_TOKEN.
  • src/sse-server.ts — hosted Express server (port 6910). Per-connection token: SSE (/sse + /messages) and stateless Streamable HTTP (/mcp). No global key.

Auth model

Multi-tenant. The server never stores credentials — each stdio process / SSE session / HTTP request carries the user's own USERID:APIKEY, forwarded as X-API-TOKEN. Most endpoints deduct account credits per call.

Adding a tool

  1. Add a client method in src/client.ts.
  2. Add src/tools/<name>.ts (schema + handler).
  3. Register it in src/server-factory.ts and add a row to the TOOLS table in src/sse-server.ts.
  4. Update the tool table in README.md.

Commands

npm install
npm run build # tsc + copy swagger.json to dist/
npm run dev # stdio (tsx)
npm run dev:sse # hosted server (tsx watch)
npm run start:sse # node dist/sse-server.js
docker compose up --build -d

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
