feed-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

feed-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from richardwooding/feed-mcp. It costs 1,464 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for feed-mcp, an MCP server that fetches RSS, Atom, and JSON feeds and makes their current content available to AI assistants. RSS and Atom are formats websites use to publish update lists.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when building, testing, formatting, linting, or running the feed-mcp server and its feed integrations.
Why use it?
They give coding agents the repository's development commands, architecture notes, and testing requirements in one place.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01464 $0.01464
Opus 5 $0.00732 $0.00732
Sonnet 5 $0.00293 $0.00293
Haiku 4.5 $0.00146 $0.00146

Measured 8d ago against content hash ee380ea2e812, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

feed-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md

Development Commands

This project uses a Makefile for all dev tasks — run make help for the full list.

make dev-setup # Set up development environment
make dev # Format, fix, and test (main dev loop)
make build # Build all packages
make check # Format, vet, lint, test
make test # All tests (unit + BDD); also: test-race, test-coverage, test-coverage-html
make lint # golangci-lint v2; also: lint-fix, fmt, vet, fix
make run # Run with example tech feeds; also: run-security, run-reddit

Direct Go equivalents when needed:

go build ./...
go test ./... # unit + BDD (model/features/*.feature via Godog)
go test -run TestName ./package # single test
go run main.go run https://techcrunch.com/feed/ # run the server locally

Docker images are built in CI via ko + goreleaser (no local Docker targets). Use ghcr.io/richardwooding/feed-mcp:latest.

Architecture

CLI (main.go, Kong) → store init → MCP server → transport (stdio or Streamable HTTP).

  • model/ — domain types (Feed, Item, Author), transport enums, FromGoFeed() adapter, URL validation (SanitizeFeedURLs).
  • store/Store manages concurrent feed fetching, caching (gocache + ristretto), per-host rate limiting, circuit breakers, retries, and connection pooling. Implements AllFeedsGetter and FeedAndItemsGetter.
  • mcpserver/ — MCP protocol server (official Go SDK); tools, resources, prompts; session management.
  • cmd/RunCmd implements the run command: transport selection, server init, graceful shutdown.

Patterns: factory constructors (NewStore, NewServer), small segregated interfaces, adapter (FromGoFeed), early-return error handling with custom error types (e.g. ErrInvalidTransport), errors as the last return value. See docs/ARCHITECTURE.md for the full breakdown.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
