aquifer: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

aquifer AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from rjpruitt16/aquifer. It costs 1,316 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions that explain Aquifer, a Go load balancer, its related repositories, local paths, commands, and development conventions. A load balancer routes requests across services.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when modifying Aquifer or its related Go, Elixir, protocol, and contract-test repositories.
Why use it?
They give a coding agent project-specific context instead of making it guess how the repository and its sibling projects fit together.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01316 $0.01316
Opus 5.5 $0.00526 $0.00526
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00263 $0.00263
Haiku 4.5 $0.00132 $0.00132

Security

Grade A, and why

aquifer AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Aquifer is a Go load balancer for agentic workloads: durable per-tenant queues, dynamic pacing driven by X-Aqueduct-* headers from the target API, POST /proxy direct-then-fallback, cluster routing, drain mode, Valkey-backed remote idempotency, and L8 signed (and optionally encrypted) webhooks.

These repos are developed together and are usually cloned as siblings under one folder (SAAS/). Before you search the web or guess, check whether the sibling exists locally at the path below and read it.

Repo Local path GitHub Role
aquifer ../aquifer https://github.com/rjpruitt16/aquifer Go load balancer for agentic workloads; reference implementation
spillway ../spillway https://github.com/rjpruitt16/spillway Elixir/Phoenix sibling of Aquifer; kept feature-for-feature in sync
l8-protocol ../l8-protocol https://github.com/rjpruitt16/l8-protocol L8 spec (index.md, spec.json): handshake, signing, encryption, request schemas
aqueduct-runner ../aqueduct-runner https://github.com/rjpruitt16/aqueduct-runner Cross-repo contract tests (Dagger + Hurl) run against real Aquifer and Spillway containers
canalis-rs ../canalis-rs https://github.com/rjpruitt16/canalis-rs Rust control plane for Aquifer/Spillway fleets

Shared contracts that must stay identical across Aquifer and Spillway: X-Aqueduct-* request/response headers, job JSON shape, idempotency hashing (sha256(user_id + ":" + key), or sha256("shared\0" + key) for idempotency_scope: "shared"), drain ledger events, POST /proxy direct-then-fallback behavior, and L8. A change to any of these in one repo needs the matching change in the other, an update to l8-protocol if it touches L8, and ideally a contract test in aqueduct-runner.

Commands

  • Unit tests: go test ./... (add -race for concurrency changes). The macOS ld: warning: ... malformed LC_DYSYMTAB line is harmless.
  • Python L8 integration (needs pip install cryptography requests): make integration-test, or run tests/l8_receiver.py + tests/test_l8.py by hand.
  • Cross-repo contracts: from ../aqueduct-runner, e.g. make contract-test-aquifer, make contract-test-all.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
