hassio-addon-blocky: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

hassio-addon-blocky CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from robocopklaus/hassio-addon-blocky. It costs 1,853 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a Home Assistant add-on that wraps Blocky, a Go-based DNS proxy and ad blocker. They describe the container build, configuration templates, development commands, and checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing the Docker build, shell scripts, configuration templates, translations, schemas, or tests for the Blocky Home Assistant add-on.
Why use it?
They explain how Home Assistant settings are translated into Blocky's YAML configuration and clarify that the project downloads a prebuilt Blocky binary instead of compiling Go code. This helps agents run the same build, lint, and verification process as the project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01853 $0.01853
Opus 5 $0.00927 $0.00927
Sonnet 5 $0.00371 $0.00371
Haiku 4.5 $0.00185 $0.00185

Security

Grade A, and why

hassio-addon-blocky CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Project Overview

Home Assistant Add-on wrapping Blocky, a DNS proxy and ad-blocker in Go. The add-on is a containerized integration layer: shell scripts + Tempio templates that translate Home Assistant config into Blocky's native YAML. No Go compilation — pre-built binaries are downloaded during Docker build.

Blocky version is pinned via BLOCKY_VERSION ARG in blocky/Dockerfile.

Development Commands

# Build (from repo root)
docker build --build-arg BUILD_ARCH=amd64 -t blocky-addon blocky

# Lint (matches CI)
hadolint blocky/Dockerfile
shellcheck blocky/rootfs/etc/cont-init.d/*.sh blocky/rootfs/etc/services.d/blocky/*

# Test (from repo root)
pnpm check # all three checks: contracts + guards + render
                        # render runs bare on Linux, auto-dispatched to Docker on macOS
pnpm check:contracts # static three-file parity (options/schema/translations/template)
pnpm check:guards # runtime guard functions vs committed render goldens
pnpm check:render # real tempio+blocky render vs goldens; Linux only
                        # (on macOS it refuses with a Docker hint — use `pnpm check`)

# Release (semantic-release via pnpm)
pnpm release:dry-run # preview what would be released
pnpm release # create release (CI runs this via workflow_dispatch)

# Inside a running container — test template rendering
tempio -conf /data/options.json -template /usr/share/tempio/blocky.gtpl -out /etc/blocky/config.yml
blocky validate --config /etc/blocky/config.yml
curl http://localhost:4000/api/blocking/status

Architecture

User configures in HA UI
        ↓
blocky/config.yaml — schema, defaults, validation rules
blocky/translations/en.yaml — UI field descriptions
        ↓
blocky/rootfs/usr/share/tempio/blocky.gtpl — Go/Tempio template: HA options → Blocky YAML
        ↓
blocky/rootfs/etc/cont-init.d/config.sh — runs template (or copies custom config)
blocky/rootfs/etc/services.d/blocky/run — starts Blocky with generated config
blocky/rootfs/etc/services.d/blocky/finish — handles crashes, prevents restart loops
        ↓
Blocky binary (DNS on :53, HTTP API on :4000)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
