openstudio-mcp-server CLAUDE.md

openstudio-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from roruizf/openstudio-mcp-server. It costs 4,137 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A developer guide for an MCP server—an interface that lets AI tools call software—for OpenStudio building-energy modelling. It explains the Docker container, required system libraries, build commands, volume mounts, and local debugging.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing dependencies or Docker setup, building the image, running the production server, or debugging it inside the container.
Why use it?
It clarifies how the server must be run and when its container needs rebuilding, avoiding environment and path-mounting errors.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.04137 $0.04137
Opus 5 $0.02069 $0.02069
Sonnet 5 $0.00827 $0.00827
Haiku 4.5 $0.00414 $0.00414

Measured 5d ago against content hash e07de63e156e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

openstudio-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Claude AI Developer Guide - OpenStudio MCP Server

Purpose: Guide AI assistants working with this Docker-based MCP server for OpenStudio building energy modeling.

Critical Context: This server runs inside Docker to manage complex system-level OpenStudio dependencies (Python bindings, Ruby libraries, X11 libraries).

Commands Reference

Docker Build

Build the Docker image after changing dependencies or Dockerfile:

docker build -f .devcontainer/Dockerfile -t openstudio-mcp-dev .

When to rebuild:

  • After modifying pyproject.toml dependencies
  • After changing .devcontainer/Dockerfile
  • After updating OpenStudio version

Docker Run (Production)

Run the server in Docker as configured in Claude Desktop:

docker run --rm -i \
  -v C:\:/mnt/c \
  -v C:\openstudio-mcp-server:/workspace \
  -w /workspace/openstudio-mcp-server \
  openstudio-mcp-dev \
  uv run openstudio_mcp_server/server.py

Volume Mounts:

  • -v C:\:/mnt/c - Entire C: drive access (enables smart path translation)
  • -v C:\openstudio-mcp-server:/workspace - Server source code

Local Debug (Inside Container)

For testing without Claude Desktop connection:

uv run openstudio_mcp_server/server.py

Requirements:

  • Must run inside the Docker container (or with OpenStudio installed locally)
  • Container must have access to OpenStudio Python bindings via PYTHONPATH

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
