retro AGENTS.md

retro AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from rubin-johnson/retro. It costs 317 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project-specific instructions for retro, an error and success logging service with an MCP server. They document its tests, code structure, SQLite database layout, and how to keep a plugin copy in sync.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing retro's database code or MCP server, running its test suite, handling schema migrations, or syncing the updated database script to the Claude plugin cache.
Why use it?
They help coding agents run the right tests, understand where changes belong, and avoid updating the source code without updating the copy used by the plugin.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00317 $0.00317
Opus 5 $0.00159 $0.00159
Sonnet 5 $0.00063 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Measured 3d ago against content hash 70f56286a414, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

retro AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

Agent-agnostic retro logging with MCP server.

Test Command

uv run python -m pytest

Use uv run python -m pytest, not uv run pytest. The -m invocation injects the cwd into sys.path, making the retro package importable even before a full editable install.

Architecture

  • retro/db.py — SQLite operations, schema migrations; stdlib only; canonical source for the plugin cache copy at ~/.claude/plugins/cache/retro-dev/retro/0.1.0/scripts/db.py
  • retro/mcp_server.py — FastMCP server exposing log_error, log_success, query, stats
  • scripts/db.py — thin shim that imports and calls retro.db.main()

Schema

Current schema version: 2. Migration from v1 → v2 adds agent TEXT column automatically.

Plugin Sync

The Claude plugin uses scripts/db.py directly. After changes to retro/db.py, sync with:

cp retro/db.py ~/.claude/plugins/cache/retro-dev/retro/0.1.0/scripts/db.py

Agent Identity

agent field on entries is populated from:

  1. agent key in the JSON payload (explicit, e.g. Gemini via MCP tool parameter)
  2. RETRO_AGENT env var fallback (Claude sets RETRO_AGENT=claude, Codex sets RETRO_AGENT=codex)
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
