GEMINI.md

uv-mcp GEMINI.md is an instructions file for Gemini CLI from saadmanrafat/uv-mcp. It costs 535 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An MCP server that exposes typed tools for uv, a Python package and project manager. It covers projects, dependencies, Python versions, virtual environments, temporary scripts, and diagnostics.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or build Python projects, add or update dependencies, inspect dependency trees, manage virtual environments, and publish packages.
Why use it?
It lets an AI assistant manage Python environments and packages through structured operations and check or repair broken setups.

Written for Gemini CLI: the file is GEMINI.md.

This is saadmanrafat/uv-mcp's own configuration. It tells Gemini CLI how to work on uv-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything uv-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00535 $0.00535
Opus 5.5 $0.00214 $0.00214
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00107 $0.00107
Haiku 4.5 $0.00053 $0.00053

Measured 3d ago against content hash 80d51f8a8667, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

uv-mcp GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

uv-mcp

You have the uv MCP server, which exposes uv (the Python package, project and interpreter manager) as typed tools. Prefer these tools over running pip, python -m venv or uv in a shell.

Tool names mirror the uv CLI: uv add is uv_add, uv pip list is uv_pip_list, uvx is uv_tool_run.

Picking a tool

Task Tool
Orient yourself (uv version, workspace root, safety mode) uv_info
Summarise a project uv_project_info
New project / script uv_init
Add or remove dependencies uv_add, uv_remove
Install everything from the lockfile uv_sync
Run code, tests, scripts uv_run
Why is X installed? uv_tree with packages=["X"], invert=true
Workspaces (monorepos) uv_workspace_list, uv_workspace_dir, uv_workspace_metadata
Python versions uv_python_list, uv_python_install, uv_python_pin, uv_python_find
Plain virtualenv / requirements.txt uv_venv, uv_pip_install, uv_pip_compile, uv_pip_sync
One-off CLI tool (ruff, black, httpie) uv_tool_run
Vulnerability audit uv_audit (project), uv_tool_audit (installed tools)
Broken environment or ImportError uv_diagnose, then uv_repair
Find any uv option (choices, env var, how to pass it) uv_help
Anything else uv can do uv_command

Conventions

  • project_path is absolute or relative to the workspace root. Omit it to use the workspace root.
  • Every command result has success, exit_code, stdout, stderr and, on failure, a hint. Read the hint first.
  • Options: common ones are parameters, resolution/index options go in resolver, the rest in extra_args (validated). Ask uv_help when unsure.
  • Never edit uv.lock by hand. Change dependencies with uv_add / uv_remove.
  • uv_publish is a dry run unless dry_run=false; only publish when the user explicitly asks.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
