agent-toolkit: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agent-toolkit AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from sageox/agent-toolkit. It costs 777 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of instructions for working on the SageOx Agent Toolkit, a toolkit for chat agents that run across several chat services. It explains the project structure, rules, setup, and checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to orient an agent, install dependencies, run tests and type checks, and follow the repository's design conventions.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the project context it needs and highlights a security rule: credentials and write access must stay outside the core agent process.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md.

This is sageox/agent-toolkit's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on agent-toolkit itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything agent-toolkit configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00777 $0.00777
Opus 5 $0.00388 $0.00388
Sonnet 5 $0.00155 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00078 $0.00078

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-toolkit AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 69 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Run ox agent prime at session start to load SageOx team context — it's fine to read the user's request first.

AI Agent Instructions

ox is SageOx's team-context CLI. It is optional for outside contributors — if you do not have it, skip the line above and carry on; nothing in this repository needs it to build, test, or run.

Orientation

An opinionated toolkit for hosted AI chat agents that run on several chat surfaces at once from one process and identity. Read README.md for the architecture and SETUP.md to run one.

The property every change has to preserve: the brain holds no transport or write credential. It can only request actions through one guarded chokepoint, and the gateway decides and executes. If a change lets a credential, a relay handle, or a write path reach the brain's process, it is wrong however well it works.

Build and test

Node 22+ and pnpm 10. The vault tests shell out to real age and age-keygen binaries, so install those too — or run mise install, which the checked-in .mise.toml pins.

pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
pnpm test # vitest
pnpm typecheck # tsc --noEmit, root and every package

Both must be green before you open a pull request. Changes under deploy/ also need Helm and Terraform; .github/workflows/ci.yml has the exact commands and pinned tool versions.

Run the CLI from source with the checked-in wrapper — the packages are not published yet:

./bin/sageox-agent --help

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
