.github/copilot-instructions.md

exoscale-mcp copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from samisouabni/exoscale-mcp. It costs 256 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for a TypeScript MCP server that manages Exoscale cloud infrastructure. They describe its structure, coding patterns, safety controls, and testing approach.

In plain words
What is it for?
Implementing Exoscale tools, placing files correctly, adding tests, and following the server's naming and response conventions.
Why use it?
They help contributors add cloud-management features consistently while keeping changes protected by read-only defaults and safety checks.

Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot instructions file.

This is samisouabni/exoscale-mcp's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on exoscale-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything exoscale-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00256 $0.00256
Opus 5 $0.00128 $0.00128
Sonnet 5 $0.00051 $0.00051
Haiku 4.5 $0.00026 $0.00026

Measured 7d ago against content hash f0793229bbfc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

exoscale-mcp copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Copilot Instructions — Exoscale MCP Server

This is a TypeScript MCP server for managing Exoscale cloud infrastructure.

Key Patterns

  • Tools use Zod v4 schemas with action discriminated unions
  • All mutations must call safetyGate(config, toolName, action, params) first
  • Read-only mode is ON by default
  • Use ExoscaleClient for API calls (handles signing automatically)
  • Return { content: [{ type: 'text', text: '...' }] } from tool handlers
  • Tests use createToolCaller() helper and mock fetch

File Structure

  • src/tools/ — tool implementations (one per file)
  • src/resources/ — read-only MCP resources
  • src/client/ — HTTP client with HMAC signing
  • src/config.ts — configuration parsing
  • src/safety.ts — read-only/dry-run safety gate
  • tests/ — unit + integration tests

When Adding Features

  • Always add safety gate to new mutating handlers
  • Always add corresponding tests
  • Update integration test matrices for new tools
  • Keep tool names in snake_case, file names in kebab-case
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
