inkscape-mcp AGENTS.md

An instruction guide for inkscape-mcp, a server that lets coding agents use Inkscape for SVG and other vector-graphic operations. It describes how to install, run, and connect the server.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps developers start the server, choose its input method, configure a custom Inkscape path, and find the project's main files and standards.
Why use it?
It avoids setup failures caused by using the sandboxed Microsoft Store version of Inkscape or by missing the required configuration.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00321 $0.00321
Opus 5 $0.00161 $0.00161
Sonnet 5 $0.00064 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

inkscape-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

inkscape-mcp — Agent Guide

Overview

MCP server for Inkscape-backed SVG and vector operations (FastMCP 3.2.0+)

Entry Points

  • uv run inkscape-mcpinkscape_mcp.main:main

Standalone Desktop Installer Required

Inkscape MUST be installed via the classic desktop installer from https://inkscape.org/release/ The Microsoft Store version is sandboxed and its inkscape.exe cannot run CLI commands — the server will fail with "Access Denied" when calling inkscape --version or any batch operation.

Verify: & "C:\Program Files\Inkscape\bin\inkscape.exe" --version Custom path: set INKSCAPE_PATH env var

Standards

  • FastMCP 3.2+ portmanteau tool pattern — tools use operation enum param
  • Responses: structured dicts with success, message, domain-specific fields
  • Dual transport: stdio (Claude Desktop) + HTTP (MCP_TRANSPORT=http)
  • See mcp-central-docs for fleet-wide coding standards

Key Files

  • README.md — full documentation
  • pyproject.toml — build config and entry points
  • CLAUDE.md — Claude Code context (if present)

Install docs: follow mcp-central-docs/standards/AGENT_INSTALL_REFERENCE.md

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

It adds 321 tokens to every session, about $0.0016 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
