agent-plugin: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agent-plugin AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from semaphor-analytics/agent-plugin. It costs 417 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for maintaining the Semaphor Agent Plugin, which connects coding-agent hosts to Semaphor's hosted MCP service. They describe the package's scope, files, tool-use rules and implementation constraints.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when reviewing or modifying the Semaphor agent plugin, its analytics skill or its MCP configuration. They also identify which repository context to read before making changes.
Why use it?
They help contributors change the plugin without duplicating server behavior, assuming unavailable tools or breaking its host-neutral design.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex.

This is semaphor-analytics/agent-plugin's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on agent-plugin itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything agent-plugin configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00417 $0.00417
Opus 5.5 $0.00167 $0.00167
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00083 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00042 $0.00042

Measured 20d ago against content hash 5e3fe0c1edc7, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-plugin AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Semaphor Agent Plugin - Agent Guide

This repository is the customer-facing Semaphor Agent Plugin for Claude Code, Codex and future coding-agent hosts. The installable package is plugins/semaphor.

Operating Rules

  • Read ACTIVE_IMPLEMENTATION_CONTEXT.md (repo root) before changing or reviewing this package. It holds the active scope and reviewer guardrails.
  • The plugin is analytics-first: it connects an agent to the hosted Semaphor MCP (https://semaphor.cloud/api/mcp) and ships one skill, skills/semaphor-analytics, that teaches governed analytics.
  • Keep the package host-neutral. Claude Code and Codex use the same skill and the same .mcp.json.
  • Analytical behavior belongs in Semaphor's MCP server, not in this package. If guidance needs a workaround, fix the server contract instead.
  • Never promise that a tool exists. The tool list depends on who is calling (role, OAuth or token, scopes). The skill says so.
  • Use camelCase tool arguments in examples (responseFormat). The server rejects any other spelling.
  • Do not add scripts that call the MCP outside the agent host. Headless and embedded use is a client header setup with an MCP project token from the environment variable SEMAPHOR_MCP_TOKEN.
  • Before publishing marketplace-visible plugin changes, follow the release versioning SOP in the Semaphor app internal docs: docs/engineering/agent-plugin/RELEASE_VERSIONING.md. Keep versioning details out of customer-facing README content.
  • Do not commit tokens, local env files, generated run artifacts, screenshots, private notes or release evidence.

Checks

From the repository root:

npm run version:plugin:check
npm run validate:plugin
npm run validate:codex-plugin
npm run validate:marketplaces

validate:marketplaces includes claude plugin validate --strict.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
