GEMINI.md

notebooklm-mcp-archived GEMINI.md is an instructions file for Gemini CLI from set2374/notebooklm-mcp-archived. It costs 725 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for notebooklm-mcp-archived, an MCP server that gives AI agents and developers programmatic access to Google NotebookLM notebooks, their sources, and query features. NotebookLM is Google's tool for working with source material and asking questions about it.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help developers install and configure the server with Python, uv, Chrome, and Google account cookies.
Why use it?
They collect the project's setup requirements, installation steps, and authentication guidance in one place.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00725 $0.00725
Opus 5 $0.00362 $0.00362
Sonnet 5 $0.00145 $0.00145
Haiku 4.5 $0.00072 $0.00072

Measured 8d ago against content hash e2d22d719d4a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

notebooklm-mcp-archived GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

NotebookLM MCP Server

This project implements a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides programmatic access to NotebookLM. It allows AI agents and developers to interact with NotebookLM notebooks, sources, and query capabilities.

Tested with personal/free tier accounts. May work with Google Workspace accounts but has not been tested. This project relies on internal APIs (batchexecute RPCs).

Environment & Setup

The project uses uv for dependency management and tool installation.

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.11+
  • uv (Universal Python Package Manager)
  • Google Chrome (for automated authentication)

Installation

From PyPI (Recommended):

uv tool install notebooklm-mcp-server
# or: pip install notebooklm-mcp-server

From Source (Development):

git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/notebooklm-mcp.git
cd notebooklm-mcp
uv tool install .

Authentication (Simplified!)

You only need to extract cookies - the CSRF token and session ID are now auto-extracted when the MCP starts.

Option 1: Chrome DevTools MCP (Recommended) If your AI assistant has Chrome DevTools MCP:

  1. Navigate to notebooklm.google.com
  2. Get cookies from any network request
  3. Call save_auth_tokens(cookies=<cookie_header>)

Option 2: Manual (Environment Variables) Extract the Cookie header from Chrome DevTools Network tab:

export NOTEBOOKLM_COOKIES="SID=xxx; HSID=xxx; SSID=xxx; ..."

Note: CSRF token and session ID are no longer needed - they are auto-extracted from the page HTML when the MCP initializes.

Cookies last for weeks. When they expire, re-extract fresh cookies.

Development Workflow

Building and Running

Reinstalling after changes: Because uv tool install installs into an isolated environment, you must reinstall to see changes during development.

uv cache clean
uv tool install --force .

Running the Server:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
