x64dbg-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

x64dbg-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from SetsunaYukiOvO/x64dbg-mcp. It costs 1,344 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for building and developing x64dbg-mcp, a Windows project that connects the x64dbg debugger to an MCP server. They describe the required tools, build options, output files, and current testing status.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to build debug or release versions for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows and to understand that no test suite currently exists.
Why use it?
They tell coding agents which branch, compiler, package manager, and architecture settings to use, reducing setup and build mistakes.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Codex.

This is SetsunaYukiOvO/x64dbg-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on x64dbg-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything x64dbg-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01344 $0.01344
Opus 5 $0.00672 $0.00672
Sonnet 5 $0.00269 $0.00269
Haiku 4.5 $0.00134 $0.00134

Security

Grade A, and why

x64dbg-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

My Custom Instructions

  • Perform all code changes on the dev branch. Keep main for reviewed integration and release changes; do not develop directly on main.

Build and development commands

Prerequisites

  • Windows 10/11, Visual Studio 2022 (Desktop C++ workload), CMake >= 3.15
  • vcpkg with nlohmann-json available (repo uses vcpkg.json)
  • VCPKG_ROOT environment variable (defaults to C:\vcpkg in build.bat)

Build

  • Both architectures (Release): ./build.bat
  • Clean rebuild: ./build.bat --clean
  • x64 only: ./build.bat --x64-only
  • x86 only: ./build.bat --x86-only
  • Debug: ./build.bat --debug

Outputs go to dist/: x64dbg_mcp.dp64 and x32dbg_mcp.dp32.

Manual CMake (x64 example)

cmake -B build_x64 -G "Visual Studio 17 2022" -A x64 -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=%VCPKG_ROOT%/scripts/buildsystems/vcpkg.cmake -DVCPKG_TARGET_TRIPLET=x64-windows -DXDBG_ARCH=x64
cmake --build build_x64 --config Release -j

For x86, use -A Win32, -DVCPKG_TARGET_TRIPLET=x86-windows, -DXDBG_ARCH=x86.

Tests

No test suite exists yet. CMake conditionally enables tests (BUILD_TESTS=ON) if a tests/ directory is present.

Architecture overview

x64dbg/x32dbg plugin (C++17, shared library) that exposes debugger capabilities through MCP (Model Context Protocol) over HTTP + SSE, with JSON-RPC 2.0 as the internal execution protocol.

Request flow

MCP client
  → HTTP POST /rpc (or /message, /messages, /) | GET /sse for events
  → MCPHttpServer (Winsock, src/communication/)
      handles MCP methods: initialize, tools/list, tools/call, resources/*, prompts/*
  → tools/call: MCPToolRegistry resolves tool → JSON-RPC method name
→ MethodDispatcher routes to handler function
      (PermissionChecker gates write/execute operations)
  → Handler (src/handlers/) → Business layer (src/business/) → x64dbg SDK

Plugin lifecycle

  • DLL entrypoint: src/PluginEntry.cpp exports pluginit, plugsetup, plugstop (via src/plugin.def).
  • pluginit: loads config, initializes logger, registers all methods/callbacks.
  • plugsetup: builds plugin menu (Start/Stop server, config editor, about).
  • MCP HTTP server starts via menu or auto-start config flag (features.auto_start_mcp_on_plugin_load).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
