CLAUDE.md

banktivity-swift-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from sflinter/banktivity-swift-mcp. It costs 2,077 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for Banktivity Swift MCP, a Swift server and command-line tool that reads and writes Banktivity personal-finance vault files. It includes build, installation, signing, running, and testing guidance.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build or run the MCP server and CLI, install their binaries, list accounts in a vault, and run the project’s tests.
Why use it?
It gives a coding assistant the project-specific commands and constraints needed to work on the repository safely, including how to preserve vault tracking for CloudKit sync.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02077 $0.02077
Opus 5 $0.01038 $0.01038
Sonnet 5 $0.00415 $0.00415
Haiku 4.5 $0.00208 $0.00208

Security

Grade A, and why

banktivity-swift-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What This Is

A Swift MCP (Model Context Protocol) server and CLI for Banktivity personal finance vaults. It reads and writes .bank8 files using Core Data's NSPersistentContainer, ensuring changes are properly tracked for CloudKit sync. This replaces an earlier TypeScript implementation that used direct SQL and corrupted vaults.

Build & Run

swift build                    # Debug build
swift build -c release # Release build

# Install binaries
cp .build/release/banktivity-mcp ~/.local/bin/
cp .build/release/banktivity-cli ~/.local/bin/
codesign -fs - ~/.local/bin/banktivity-mcp   # Re-sign after copy
codesign -fs - ~/.local/bin/banktivity-cli

# Run MCP server
BANKTIVITY_FILE_PATH="/path/to/file.bank8" swift run banktivity-mcp

# Run CLI
BANKTIVITY_FILE_PATH="/path/to/file.bank8" swift run banktivity-cli accounts list
swift run banktivity-cli --vault "/path/to/file.bank8" accounts list

Testing

Tests use Swift Testing framework (import Testing). The Command Line Tools don't ship Testing or XCTest, so tests must run with the Xcode toolchain:

DEVELOPER_DIR=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer \
SDKROOT=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk \
DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/Library/Frameworks \
swift test \
  -Xswiftc -F -Xswiftc /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/Library/Frameworks \
  -Xlinker -rpath -Xlinker /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/Library/Frameworks

Integration tests require a Banktivity vault at ~/Documents/Banktivity/Steves Accounts MCP.bank8. Tests copy it to /tmp before each run and skip gracefully if the vault is missing.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
