ai-config-sync-manager: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ai-config-sync-manager AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from slash9494/ai-config-sync-manager. It costs 758 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for a Node.js command-line tool that compares, converts, and synchronizes Claude and Codex developer settings.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when modifying the synchronizer, especially YAML handling, tests, build scripts, or publishing files.
Why use it?
They prevent incompatible YAML output by requiring one shared utility for quoting and serialization, with tests for new edge cases.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Codex.

This is slash9494/ai-config-sync-manager's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on ai-config-sync-manager itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ai-config-sync-manager configures →

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is import { yamlScalarRequiresQuoting } from "../bin/util/yaml-scalar.mjs";.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00758 $0.00758
Opus 5 $0.00379 $0.00379
Sonnet 5 $0.00152 $0.00152
Haiku 4.5 $0.00076 $0.00076

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-config-sync-manager AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md — AI Config Sync Manager

A zero-runtime-deps Node ESM CLI that compares, converts, and syncs Claude/Codex developer settings. Primary entry point: bin/ai-config-sync.mjs.

Pre-work reading order

  1. README.md — user-facing CLI reference.
  2. package.json, scripts/build-dist.mjs — confirm scripts and files policy.
  3. Reading source directly is the last resort.

YAML serialization rule (most important — always go through this)

When serializing a YAML scalar or deciding whether it needs quoting, you MUST use the utility below.

import { serializeYamlScalar, yamlScalarRequiresQuoting } from "./util/yaml-scalar.mjs";
// in tests:
import { yamlScalarRequiresQuoting } from "../bin/util/yaml-scalar.mjs";
  • Forbidden to write your own quote/escape logic. Forbidden to judge indicators directly with regex.
  • Forbidden to add wrappers like serializeFrontmatterScalar (we have removed such wrappers before).
  • When you find a new quoting edge case: add the rule to bin/util/yaml-scalar.mjs + add a unit case to tests/yaml-scalar.test.mjs.
  • Reason: guarantee Claude (lenient YAML) ↔ Codex (strict YAML 1.2) round-trip. If even one site uses its own quoting, the strict parser fails to parse the entire frontmatter and fields like name go missing (this has actually happened).

Code conventions

  • ESM only. .mjs extension is required in import paths.
  • double quotes, semicolons, function declarations.
  • No new external runtime dependencies (zero-runtime-deps policy; devDependencies are allowed).
  • Comments: one WHY line only — one reason, on one physical line, never wrapped onto a second. No WHAT or task references. If it does not fit, restate the reason more tersely; do not wrap. Comments written before this rule are still wrapped, so rewrite one only when you are already changing that code.
  • Splitting bin/ai-config-sync.mjs is on hold. Cross-cutting helpers may be extracted into a separate .mjs under bin/util/ (yaml-scalar.mjs is the precedent).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
