snyk-vulnbench: Instructions file for Claude Code

AGENTS.md

snyk-vulnbench AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode from snyk-labs/snyk-vulnbench. It costs 3,690 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project-specific instructions for Snyk's security benchmark, a test suite for measuring how coding agents handle software security tasks. They describe the project’s purpose, technologies, architecture, and evaluation areas.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when modifying, reviewing, or evaluating code in the snyk-labs/snyk-vulnbench project.
Why use it?
They give a coding agent the context needed to work consistently in that repository and understand how its security tests are organized.

Written for Claude Code and Codex and OpenCode: PreToolUse hook event, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex.

This is snyk-labs/snyk-vulnbench's own configuration. It tells Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode how to work on snyk-vulnbench itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything snyk-vulnbench configures →

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /home/node/.local/bin/claude.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03690 $0.03690
Opus 5.5 $0.01476 $0.01476
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00738 $0.00738
Haiku 4.5 $0.00369 $0.00369

Measured 27d ago against content hash 3cc58c52e787, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

snyk-vulnbench AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 27d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Coding Agent Security Benchmark

Project Purpose

Benchmarking framework that runs AI coding agents (primarily Claude Code via the TypeScript Agent SDK) against standardized security tasks, collecting metrics to compare:

  • Different models (claude-opus-4-6 vs claude-sonnet-4-6 vs claude-haiku-4-5)
  • Different MCP configurations (with/without security tools like Snyk, semgrep, etc.)
  • Different system prompts and agent configs

Primary Eval Categories

  1. VulnBench 1.0 find categories (find-vulns, llm-find-vulns, app-find-vulns): Given a codebase with known vulnerabilities in findings.json, how many can the agent correctly identify using the original type-only scorer?
  2. VulnBench 2.0 attacker-reachable findings (attacker-reachable-find-vulns): Compare reported source-to-sink flows against human-curated findings-attacker-reachable.json ground truth.
  3. fix-vulns: Given a codebase with known vulnerabilities, how many can the agent correctly fix?

Tech Stack

  • Runtime: TypeScript + Node 24, pnpm
  • Agent SDK: @anthropic-ai/claude-agent-sdk (TypeScript) — wraps Claude Code CLI
  • Anthropic SDK: @anthropic-ai/sdk — for token counting and direct API calls (scoring, judging)
  • Codex Security: pinned @openai/codex-security CLI — dedicated full-repository security harness
  • Claude Code CLI: available at /home/node/.local/bin/claude

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
