saw-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

saw-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from snyk/saw-mcp. It costs 1,978 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for AI coding agents working on Snyk API & Web MCP, a Python package that exposes security-scanning tools through MCP. They describe the project, layout, setup, commands, configuration, and audit logging.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when an AI coding agent is editing, testing, configuring, or reviewing the saw-mcp codebase.
Why use it?
They give an agent the project context and working rules needed to make changes in the repository without guessing its structure or commands.

This is snyk/saw-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on saw-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything saw-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01978 $0.01978
Opus 5 $0.00989 $0.00989
Sonnet 5 $0.00396 $0.00396
Haiku 4.5 $0.00198 $0.00198

Security

Grade A, and why

saw-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Guidance for AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, etc.) working in this repo.

What this is

saw-mcp is the Snyk API & Web MCP server — a FastMCP 2.0 Python package that exposes probely_* tools so AI assistants can onboard DAST targets, configure authentication, run scans, and triage findings. It is distributed via PyPI (snyk-apiweb-mcp), the Cursor Marketplace (.cursor-plugin/), and the MCP registry (server.json).

Naming: Snyk API & Web was formerly Probely. The platform API (api.probely.com), console (plus.probely.app), and MCP tool names (probely_*) still use the legacy prefix. Config and env vars use SAW / saw / MCP_SAW_*.

Owner: @snyk/emerging-technologies-solutions_probely (see .github/CODEOWNERS).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
