solace-broker-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

solace-broker-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from SolaceProducts/solace-broker-mcp. It costs 1,026 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for Solace Broker MCP, a Go server that exposes Solace message-broker monitoring and management through SEMP. They describe testing, adding tools, and naming rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing or reviewing tools, running unit or end-to-end tests, checking coverage, or working with Dockerized brokers.
Why use it?
They tell contributors how this codebase is structured and which checks must pass before changes are pushed. They also clarify when to use YAML definitions or native Go code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01026 $0.01026
Opus 5.5 $0.00410 $0.00410
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00205 $0.00205
Haiku 4.5 $0.00103 $0.00103

Security

Grade A, and why

solace-broker-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Solace Broker MCP Server

Go MCP server exposing Solace broker monitoring/management tools over SEMP. Architecture and diagrams: docs/_internal/architecture.md.

Commands

  • make check — build, vet, lint, race-enabled tests with the 85% coverage gate (docs/_internal/unit-test-coverage.md). Matches CI's build/lint/test jobs (CI additionally runs the E2E jobs below); run before pushing.
  • make test — unit tests. Single test: go test ./internal/<pkg>/ -run TestName -v
  • make test-cover — unit tests + coverage gate only (no vet/lint)
  • make helm-check — Helm chart lint, kubeconform, helm-unittest (deploy/charts/) and the chart-vs-deploy/kubernetes/ drift check, same steps as CI's helm-chart job. Not part of make check; run it when the chart or deploy/kubernetes/ changes. Tool prerequisites (incl. yq, dyff): deploy/charts/solace-broker-mcp/README.md.
  • make e2e-all — the test/e2e-basic-mcp suite against Dockerized brokers, full lifecycle (up, run, teardown). CI also runs the oauth and monitoring E2E suites (docs/_internal/e2e-testing.md).
  • CI (.github/workflows/build-and-test.yml) is the source of truth; if the Makefile drifts, CI wins.

Adding a tool

Two mechanisms — prefer the first:

  1. Composite (YAML): declare in internal/composite/definitions/tools.yaml (embedded at build time). Multi-step SEMPv2 calls, templates, pagination.
  2. Native Go handler: internal/tools/sempv1/, one package per tool. Only for logic YAML can't express (e.g. SEMPv1 XML parsing).

Never declare a broker parameter — it is auto-injected at registration into the schema of every tool defined through either mechanism (injectBrokerParam in internal/tools/register.go). A tool that genuinely takes no broker parameter and resolves no SEMP client — list-brokers and describe-semp-schema are the two today — sets Metadata.NoBroker: true instead of declaring one: ToolManager.CallTool skips broker resolution for it but still runs full input-schema validation, exactly as it does for every other tool. Both are registered into the ToolManager like any other handler (RegisterListBrokers/RegisterDescribeSempSchema in internal/tools/), not against the MCP server directly — server.AddTool is reachable from exactly one place, RegisterWithServer, and TestServerAddToolHasOneCallSite enforces that a new tool cannot bypass it the way these two used to.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
