teams-mcp-server: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

teams-mcp-server AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from ssasuoirafen/teams-mcp-server. It costs 2,809 tokens per session, scanned A, a copy of teams-mcp-server CLAUDE.md, MIT.

A set of project instructions for a Python server that connects Microsoft Teams to Microsoft Graph, Microsoft's API for working with its services. It documents sign-in, configuration, commands, testing, and the code structure.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing, running, testing, or troubleshooting this Microsoft Teams integration.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the repository's setup and working rules instead of making it infer them from the files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02809 $0.02809
Opus 5.5 $0.01124 $0.01124
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00562 $0.00562
Haiku 4.5 $0.00281 $0.00281

Security

Grade A, and why

teams-mcp-server AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 14d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Teams MCP Server

MCP server for Microsoft Teams via Microsoft Graph API. Delegated auth (device code flow), no client secret.

Stack

Python per requires-python in pyproject.toml (the latest stable release; dev pin in .python-version), mcp[cli] 2.x (MCPServer; the major is bounded <3, so the next SDK major is a deliberate port rather than a broken fresh install), httpx, msal. Tests in tests/ (uv run pytest): test_server.py pins the tool surface and formatting, test_tools.py calls tools through an in-process mcp.Client over a fake Graph transport (httpx.MockTransport) and fake sign-in, with no network; ruff + pytest in the dev group (uv sync). CI runs on push/PR via .github/workflows/ci.yml (uv sync + pytest + advisory ruff).

Commands

uv run teams-mcp # run server (needs TEAMS_MCP_TENANT_ID, TEAMS_MCP_CLIENT_ID)
uv run teams-mcp login # device code sign-in in the terminal (same variables)

Environment Variables

  • TEAMS_MCP_TENANT_ID (required) - Azure AD tenant ID
  • TEAMS_MCP_CLIENT_ID (required) - App registration client ID
  • TEAMS_MCP_SCOPES (optional) - comma-separated scope override (default: .default; scope semantics in the Scopes section)

Architecture

Three-file pattern, all logic flows through the same pipeline:

server.py (MCP tools) -> graph.py (Graph API client) -> Microsoft Graph REST API
auth.py (MSAL device code flow, token cache)
  • src/teams_mcp/auth.py - AuthManager: device code flow, token cache at ~/.teams-mcp/token_cache.json. Default scope https://graph.microsoft.com/.default (semantics in the Scopes section)
  • src/teams_mcp/graph.py - GraphClient: async httpx wrapper with _get, _post, _post_no_content, _patch, _delete helpers. All raise GraphApiError on failure (parses Graph API JSON error body). GRAPH_BASE constant points at v1.0 — all endpoints currently used are GA.
  • src/teams_mcp/server.py - MCP tools + response post-processing (Adaptive Card text extraction, forwarded/quoted message parsing, hosted-content inlining, mention parsing). Global auth/graph initialized lazily. _require_auth() guard on every tool.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
