geoscience-skills: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

geoscience-skills AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from SteadfastAsArt/geoscience-skills. It costs 598 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for the Geoscience Skills project. They describe its skill-file layout, editing rules, validation guidance, and compatibility with coding-agent platforms.

In plain words
What is it for?
Finding skill files, following the project templates and schema, and checking repository structure and compatibility guidance.
Why use it?
They help contributors edit portable skills consistently and avoid relying on one particular agent or plugin system.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions .claude-plugin; mentions subagents; mentions Claude Code.

This is SteadfastAsArt/geoscience-skills's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on geoscience-skills itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything geoscience-skills configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00598 $0.00598
Opus 5.5 $0.00239 $0.00239
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00120 $0.00120
Haiku 4.5 $0.00060 $0.00060

Security

Grade A, and why

geoscience-skills AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository guidance

Geoscience Skills provides portable Agent Skills for coding assistants: 39 domain skills, 8 workflows, and the using-geoscience-skills router. Shared content follows https://agentskills.io/specification and must work without a particular agent's hooks, slash commands, delegation API, or plugin manager.

Layout

  • <library>/SKILL.md: domain guidance, with local references/ and scripts/.
  • workflows/<name>/SKILL.md: multi-library workflows.
  • using-geoscience-skills/SKILL.md: on-demand discovery and routing.
  • agents/: optional role guides; not a portable agent registration format.
  • .claude/: optional Claude Code configuration for this checkout.
  • .claude-plugin/marketplace.json, openclaw.plugin.json: generated platform adapters.
  • docs/COMPATIBILITY.md: installation targets, sources, and verification scope.

Editing skills

Use the template and schema in CONTRIBUTING.md and docs/SKILL_TEMPLATE.md. Keep standard fields at the frontmatter root. Custom project fields belong in metadata, whose keys and values are strings. Encode list-valued project metadata as JSON array strings. Preserve dependency information when migrating formats; these declarations do not install Python packages automatically.

Describe the task and selection criteria without naming a particular assistant. Keep entrypoints as concise as the task permits; there is no minimum line or tag count. Load references only when relevant. Do not require unavailable companion skills, optional commands, or subagents to complete ordinary tasks.

For scientific examples, preserve units, coordinate systems, missing-value semantics, assumptions, and provenance. Do not silently change calculations as part of a packaging or documentation task.

Validation

python3 scripts/validate_skills.py
python3 scripts/sync_manifests.py --check
python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -v

After changing skill names, paths, or descriptions, regenerate adapters with python3 scripts/sync_manifests.py and update the human-readable SKILLS.md index. For installation changes, run python3 scripts/check_installation.py; this uses the upstream skills CLI in temporary projects and requires Node.js and network access. It does not exercise each coding agent's model or the scientific stack.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
