lateralus: Instructions file for Claude Code

AGENTS.md

lateralus AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode from SunnyKTuladhar/lateralus. It costs 1,800 tokens per session, scanned B, original, MIT.

A project guide for AI coding agents working on Lateralus, a tool that helps agents consider alternative ways to debug a problem. It explains the repository structure, file ownership, and installation workflow.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when modifying Lateralus, especially when deciding which files to edit, understanding its skills, or following its macOS, Linux, WSL, and Windows installation workflows.
Why use it?
It gives agents the project context they need before editing files. This helps prevent changes in the wrong place and keeps the repository’s installation and synchronization process consistent.

Instructions file for Claude CodeCodexOpenCode

Written for Claude Code and Codex and OpenCode: PostToolUse hook event, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions subagents.

This is SunnyKTuladhar/lateralus's own configuration. It tells Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode how to work on lateralus itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything lateralus configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01800 $0.01800
Opus 5 $0.00900 $0.00900
Sonnet 5 $0.00360 $0.00360
Haiku 4.5 $0.00180 $0.00180

Security

Grade B, and why

lateralus AGENTS.md scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Reads agent configuration directoriesmediumAgent snooping

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

Two plain shell scripts. Both install a `PostToolUse` hook and wire it into `~/.claude/settings.json`.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 166 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

lateralus — project context

Single source of truth for all AI agents working in this repo. CLAUDE.md and GEMINI.md both point here.

Project overview

Lateralus is a lateral-thinking skill for AI coding agents that breaks debugging tunnel vision. It surfaces the user's end goal and solution horizon (long-term, MVP, POC, workaround), then generates goal-appropriate alternatives in two tiers: grounded-but-unlikely and wild/speculative reframes.

Ships as a Copilot repo skill and direct install via install.sh / install.ps1.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lateralus AGENTS.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository SunnyKTuladhar/lateralus (3 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 1,800 tokens to every session, about $0.0090 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (reads agent configuration directories, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
