supermemory: Instructions file for Claude Code

AGENTS.md

supermemory AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode from supermemoryai/supermemory. It costs 3,351 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for adding Supermemory to an application or working on the Supermemory codebase. Supermemory is a service that stores facts, user profiles, and document-search information for AI agents through an API.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to install the Supermemory tools, configure an API key, find the correct API documentation, and follow repository-specific development instructions.
Why use it?
They help an agent choose the right setup and documentation before using the service, reducing incorrect API calls and configuration mistakes.

Written for Claude Code and Codex and OpenCode: Claude Code plugin machinery, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is supermemoryai/supermemory's own configuration. It tells Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode how to work on supermemory itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything supermemory configures →

About the project

Supermemory is a memory and context engine for AI applications that stores, updates, and retrieves information from conversations and other sources. It helps AI systems retain user facts, build profiles, search knowledge, and supply relevant context.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03351 $0.03351
Opus 5.5 $0.01340 $0.01340
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00670 $0.00670
Haiku 4.5 $0.00335 $0.00335

Security

Grade A, and why

supermemory AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Context for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, Copilot and others) working with supermemory.

supermemory is a memory engine for AI agents: a memory graph that updates and forgets facts, user profiles, and retrieval over your documents, through one API. Documentation · Docs index for agents · Console and API keys

Two jobs, two sections:

Use supermemory in an app

Start here

  • Check the docs index or the docs MCP (below) before writing any endpoint.
  • npx supermemory setup --prompt prints the integration prompt for the current project. Plain npx supermemory setup launches a separate coding agent, so use --prompt when you are already an agent.
  • npx supermemory help --json lists every CLI command in a machine-readable form.
  • The official skill teaches the current (v5) API surface:
npx skills add https://github.com/supermemoryai/skills --skill supermemory

Install and first calls

Set SUPERMEMORY_API_KEY (create a key in the console), then install SDK version 5 or later:

npm i supermemory           # TypeScript / JavaScript
pip install -U supermemory # Python (3.10 or later)

Every memory call (add, search, profile, list, documents) takes a namespace first: one user, workspace or tenant.

import { Supermemory } from "supermemory";

const supermemory = new Supermemory({ apiKey: process.env.SUPERMEMORY_API_KEY });

await supermemory.add("user_123", {
  content: "User prefers TypeScript",
  dreaming: "instant", // processed right away (one extra operation per document); the default "dynamic" batches extraction
});

const { results } = await supermemory.search("user_123", { query: "language preference" });
const { profile } = await supermemory.profile("user_123");

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

It adds 3,351 tokens to every session, about $0.0134 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-29.
