agent-skills: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agent-skills AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from SurajGThakkar/agent-skills. It costs 560 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of rules for working in a repository of modular agent skills. It describes how skill folders, their main instruction files, supporting resources, and registration should be organised.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating, reviewing, or updating agent skills, especially their folder layout, SKILL.md files, supporting resources, and registration details.
Why use it?
It gives contributors a shared structure for adding and maintaining skills. This makes the repository easier for agents and developers to inspect and extend consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00560 $0.00560
Opus 5 $0.00280 $0.00280
Sonnet 5 $0.00112 $0.00112
Haiku 4.5 $0.00056 $0.00056

Measured 8d ago against content hash 61cdb3b891d3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-skills AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md — Agent Skills Schema

Owner: Suraj Thakkar | Repository: agent-skills

This repository houses a curated, modular collection of agent skills. The LLM maintains, enhances, and builds upon these skills to extend its own capabilities.

This file is the operational contract for AI agents traversing or modifying this repository. Be Bespoke, Succinct & Holistic.

1. Structure

Skills are categorized under skills/:

  • agent-ops/ — Meta-skills for adapting and expanding agent capabilities.
  • engineering/ — Architectural alignment and engineering disciplines.
  • knowledge-management/ — Obsidian-native integrations and wiki maintenance.
  • productivity/ — Workflows for learning and personal development.
  • assets/ — Shared resources and global scripts.

2. Skill Conventions

  • Isolation: Each skill resides in its own subfolder (e.g., skills/knowledge-management/obsidian-cli/).
  • The SKILL.md: This is the execution entry point. It must contain YAML frontmatter (name and description).
  • Lean Core: Keep SKILL.md under 500 lines. Offload complexity into scripts/, examples/, resources/, or references/ subdirectories within the skill folder.
  • Bespoke & Succinct: Instructions must be hyper-specific to the use case. Avoid generic platitudes.
  • Holistic Design: Ensure a skill's inputs and outputs integrate cleanly with broader workflows (e.g., Obsidian Second Brain).

3. Registration

When creating or promoting a new skill, you must:

  1. Add an entry in skills.sh.json under the appropriate category group.
  2. Link the skill's SKILL.md in the top-level README.md alongside a one-line description.

Note: Unregistered skills are considered orphaned and will not be loaded.

4. Operating Rules

  1. Read before writing: Always read a skill's SKILL.md and the skills.sh.json registry before making structural changes.
  2. Deterministic execution: Automations and scripts do the heavy lifting; the LLM focuses on judgment, synthesis, and planning.
  3. Constraint Adherence: Treat any negative constraint in a skill (e.g., "never edit this directly") as an absolute boundary. No lazy assumptions.
  4. Do no harm: Never break existing skill integrations when refactoring. Ensure backward compatibility with existing vault workflows.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
