dotfiles CLAUDE.md

dotfiles CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from surajssd/dotfiles. It costs 2,843 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository guide for a dotfiles project, which stores shell settings, utility scripts, agent skills, rules, and installation automation. It also explains the separate private repository used for sensitive files.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for understanding the repository structure, installing its configuration, and finding common development commands.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the project layout and the commands needed to work safely in the repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.02843 $0.02843
Opus 5 $0.01422 $0.01422
Sonnet 5 $0.00569 $0.00569
Haiku 4.5 $0.00284 $0.00284

Measured today against content hash 194d37197b04, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dotfiles CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Overview

This is a dotfiles repository containing personal shell configurations, custom utility scripts, and installation automation. The repository manages both public and private dotfiles through a dual-repository structure.

Repository Structure

The repository follows a two-tier architecture:

  • Public repository (./): Contains shareable configurations and scripts
  • Private repository (./dotfilesprivate/): Separate git clone (not a submodule) containing private/sensitive scripts and configs. It is .gitignore'd and cloned via make clone-private

Both repositories mirror the same structure:

  • configs/ - Shell configurations, git configs, and tool settings
  • local-bin/ - Custom utility scripts
  • skills/ - Agent skills in SKILL.md format (symlinked to ~/.claude/skills/ and ~/.agents/skills/)
  • rules/ - Agent rule .md files (symlinked to ~/.claude/rules/)
  • installers/ - Installation automation scripts (public repo only)
  • containers/ - Container image builds, e.g. openclaw (public repo only, not installed)

Common Commands

Installation

# Install all configs, scripts, skills, and rules
make install-all

# Install only scripts to ~/.local/bin
make install-local-bin

# Install only config files
make install-configs

# Install only agent skills to ~/.claude/skills and ~/.agents/skills
make install-skills

# Install only agent rules to ~/.claude/rules
make install-rules

# Download external skills (mattpocock, bastos, blader) into skills/ — also run by 'make update'
make fetch-external-skills

# Download external rules (abatilo) into rules/ — also run by 'make update'
make fetch-external-rules

# Pull latest from both public and private repos
make pull-master

# Update from upstream and reinstall (pull-master + fetch-external-skills + fetch-external-rules + install-all)
make update

# Clone the private dotfiles repository
make clone-private

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
