airstrings-cli: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

airstrings-cli AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from symbionix-sl/airstrings-cli. It costs 1,532 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of AGENTS.md instructions for using AirStrings CLI, a command-line program for managing localized text in the AirStrings platform. It explains authentication, structured output, exit codes, commands, and paging.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when listing or changing projects, strings, locales, sections, bundles, and imports, including scripted workflows that need JSON output and retry handling.
Why use it?
It gives an AI agent the rules needed to run the CLI safely and interpret its results correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01532 $0.01532
Opus 5 $0.00766 $0.00766
Sonnet 5 $0.00306 $0.00306
Haiku 4.5 $0.00153 $0.00153

Security

Grade A, and why

airstrings-cli AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AirStrings CLI — agent guide

airstrings manages localized strings for the AirStrings platform. This file is the contract for driving it from an AI agent or script. Read it once; every command below is stable and machine-friendly.

Golden rules

  • Add --json to any command for structured stdout. Human text goes to stdout, errors and progress go to stderr.

  • Branch on the exit code, not on message text:

    code meaning retry?
    0 ok
    1 generic error no
2 usage / bad input no (fix the command)
3 auth (bad/expired key) no (fix credentials)
    4 not found no
    5 network yes (backoff)
    6 rate limited yes (backoff)
  • Any command + --help/-h prints its help text and exits 0 — nothing is executed, no side effects. Safe to probe usage this way.

  • Unknown flags exit 2 (usage) — the command does not run. Fix the invocation.

  • Set NO_COLOR=1 (or just pipe — non-TTY auto-disables color) for clean output.

Auth — two ways

Workspace (interactive / committed repo): airstrings init <api-key> writes .airstrings/config.json (mode 0600) at the repo root. Found by walking up from the cwd, like .git. Survives restarts.

Environment variables (headless / CI / ephemeral agent): set AIRSTRINGS_API_KEY and skip init. It overrides any workspace credential.

AIRSTRINGS_API_KEY scoped key; project + default env resolved from it
AIRSTRINGS_PROJECT_ID optional — skip project lookup (one fewer API call)
AIRSTRINGS_ENV_ID optional — skip environment lookup
AIRSTRINGS_BASE_URL optional — default https://api.airstrings.com

A scoped key maps to exactly one project + one environment. With just the key, the CLI resolves both automatically; supply the IDs to make calls fully stateless (zero discovery round-trips).

Confirm what you're pointed at any time: airstrings status --json{source, project_id, env_id, base_url, protection, environments[...], mode, workspace_dir}. source is "workspace" or "env". protection is "protected" (production sealed — changes reach it via promote), "yolo" (direct publish to production enabled), or "unknown"; it is derived from one best-effort API call and degrades to "unknown" rather than failing, so status never errors on it.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
