In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to build or watch the plugin, run lint checks, bump patch, minor, or major versions, reload it in Obsidian, and prepare a GitHub release.
Why use it?
They provide the exact commands and release rules needed to test the plugin and keep its version files consistent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02184 $0.02184
Opus 5 $0.01092 $0.01092
Sonnet 5 $0.00437 $0.00437
Haiku 4.5 $0.00218 $0.00218

Security

Grade A, and why

obsidian-gemini-helper CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Obsidian plugin for Google Gemini AI with Chat, Workflow Automation, and Semantic Search (RAG). Uses @google/genai SDK. API-only (no CLI backends or local LLM support).

Build Commands

npm run build # Production build (tsc + esbuild) -> outputs main.js
npm run dev # Development build with watch mode
npm run lint # ESLint check

After building, reload the plugin in Obsidian to test changes.

Version Bumping

Use npm's built-in version command which automatically updates all version files:

npm version patch   # 1.2.3 -> 1.2.4
npm version minor   # 1.2.3 -> 1.3.0
npm version major   # 1.2.3 -> 2.0.0

This runs version-bump.mjs which updates package.json, manifest.json, and versions.json together.

Releasing

After bumping, push master only — do NOT push the version tag manually:

git push origin master

The Release workflow (.github/workflows/release.yml) runs on push to master, creates the tag from manifest.json's version, builds, and opens a draft GitHub release with main.js/manifest.json/styles.css attached. The maintainer edits the notes and publishes the draft manually. If the tag already exists (e.g. it was pushed by hand), the workflow skips release creation entirely — delete the remote tag and re-run the workflow to recover.

Architecture

Core Layer (src/core/)

  • gemini.ts - Gemini API client wrapper
    • GeminiClient class with streaming chat, function calling, and RAG integration
    • chatWithToolsStream() - Main method for chat with tools and optional RAG
    • messagesToHistory() - Converts Message[] to Gemini Content[] format
  • fileSearch.ts - File Search RAG management
    • FileSearchManager - Handles store creation, file sync, deletion
    • smartSync() - Checksum-based incremental sync with parallel uploads
  • tools.ts - Function calling tool definitions (13 tools for vault operations)
  • mcpClient.ts - MCP (Model Context Protocol) client for external tool servers
    • Implements Streamable HTTP transport with JSON-RPC

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
