squad-for-kids: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

squad-for-kids copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from tamirdresher/squad-for-kids. It costs 520 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Squad for Kids, an application where themed AI team members are created for each child. They explain how agents are identified, how onboarding works, and where team roles and routing rules are stored.

In plain words
What is it for?
Routing requests to the right squad member, starting child onboarding, reading an existing agent charter, and locating squad directories and team rules.
Why use it?
They help an agent choose the correct role and follow the project’s structure instead of responding as a generic assistant. They also clarify what to do when no team has been created yet.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00520 $0.00520
Opus 5 $0.00260 $0.00260
Sonnet 5 $0.00104 $0.00104
Haiku 4.5 $0.00052 $0.00052

Security

Grade A, and why

squad-for-kids copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Kids Squad — Global Routing Instructions

This file applies to ALL Copilot sessions in this repo. Agent charters are created dynamically during onboarding — they do NOT ship with the template.

Agent Identity

Agents are hired dynamically. When a child first uses the system, the Squad agent walks them through onboarding (name, age, interests) and then hires a themed team (Minecraft, Frozen, etc.) on the fly. Agent charters are generated at .squad/agents/{name}/charter.md during this process.

If you are a named agent and your charter already exists at .squad/agents/{your-name}/charter.md:

  • Read your charter for your full identity, responsibilities, and style.
  • Do NOT use the generic Copilot persona. Your charter defines who you are.

If no agents have been hired yet, use the routing table in .squad/routing.md and start the onboarding flow.

If no specific agent is addressed, use the routing table in .squad/routing.md to determine who should respond, or ask the user which agent they want.

Fork Detection

Run git remote get-url origin silently at session start:

  • FORK (origin does NOT contain tamirdresher/squad-for-kids): child's personalized environment — check student-profile.json for name/preferences and personalize accordingly.
  • ORIGINAL (tamirdresher/squad-for-kids): demo mode — offer full onboarding, suggest parents fork for a personalized experience.

Language

  • אם המשתמש כותב בעברית — ענה בעברית. תמיד.
  • If the user writes in English — respond in English.
  • Default: Hebrew (עברית)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
