NoobBook CLAUDE.md

NoobBook CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from TeacherOp/NoobBook. It costs 5,267 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for NoobBook, an open-source alternative to NotebookLM, a service for asking questions about uploaded learning materials. They describe its React frontend, Flask backend, self-hosted data services, commands, and required system tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help start the app, build and lint the frontend, run backend tests, and understand its dashboard and project workspace.
Why use it?
They give the coding agent the project's architecture and exact development commands, reducing confusion when working across the frontend and backend. They also identify the tests and build checks to run.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.05267 $0.05267
Opus 5 $0.02634 $0.02634
Sonnet 5 $0.01053 $0.01053
Haiku 4.5 $0.00527 $0.00527

Measured 5d ago against content hash 77e10829e863, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

NoobBook CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Guidance for Claude Code (claude.ai/code) working in this repository. Keep this file lean — it's loaded into every session's context window. Deep details belong in code comments next to the thing they document.

What NoobBook is

Open-source NotebookLM alternative. React frontend + Flask backend, self-hosted Supabase for data + storage + auth. Website: noobbooklm.com.

Two views, that's it:

  1. Dashboard — project list (create / open / delete) + course resources.
  2. Project Workspace — three panels: Sources (multi-modal ingestion) · Chat (RAG Q&A with citations + voice) · Studio (content generation — fully built, not "planned").

Run / build

bin/setup # First-time: venv + deps for backend & frontend
bin/dev # Start both servers (backend :5001, vite :5173)
bin/dev --backend-only
bin/dev --frontend-only
bin/dev --install # Refresh deps before starting

cd frontend && npm run build # Production frontend build
cd frontend && npm run lint # ESLint
cd backend && pytest # Backend tests (372+ currently)

System deps: libreoffice and ffmpeg (audio + DOCX/PPTX paths). On macOS: brew install libreoffice ffmpeg.

Docker / self-hosted Supabase: see docker/MAC_SETUP.md. 16 containers (Supabase stack + backend + frontend + migrate).

Production: Coolify behind Traefik on a bare-metal IOFlood box. The production compose file is docker-compose-dev.yml (NOT docker-compose.yml, which is the local-dev stack).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
