se-ranking-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

se-ranking-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from TeamDay-AI/se-ranking-mcp. It costs 1,898 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository-specific instructions for an AI coding assistant working with an MCP server that connects to SE Ranking’s SEO APIs. SE Ranking provides data about search rankings, keywords, backlinks, websites, and SEO projects.

In plain words
What is it for?
Building the project, running unit or end-to-end tests, checking code style, and working with SE Ranking data and project operations.
Why use it?
It gives the assistant the project’s commands, API token requirements, and the difference between its two API backends. This reduces mistakes when building, testing, or calling the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01898 $0.01898
Opus 5 $0.00949 $0.00949
Sonnet 5 $0.00380 $0.00380
Haiku 4.5 $0.00190 $0.00190

Measured 9d ago against content hash 5ea7f0ff08a3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

se-ranking-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that connects AI assistants to SE Ranking's SEO APIs. It provides ~190 tools organized into two API backends:

  • Data API (DATA_ prefix, host api.seranking.com): SEO analytics — keyword research, backlinks, domain analysis, SERP, website audits, account/credit info. Requires DATA_API_TOKEN.
  • Project API (PROJECT_ prefix, host api4.seranking.com): operations on projects owned by the authenticated account — rank tracking, competitors, backlink monitoring, marketing plan, sub-accounts, AIRT (AI Result Tracker). Requires PROJECT_API_TOKEN.

Tokens are not interchangeable. The Docker quickstart sets only SERANKING_API_TOKEN (Data-only); any PROJECT_* tool needs PROJECT_API_TOKEN set explicitly.

Common Commands

# Build
npm run build

# Run tests (compiles first)
npm test

# Run only E2E tests (requires E2E_ENABLED=true and valid API tokens)
npm run test:e2e

# Watch mode for tests
npm run test:watch

# Lint and format
npm run lint
npm run lint:fix
npm run format

# Type checking
npm run typecheck

# Start servers
npm run start # Stdio mode (standard MCP)
npm run start-http # HTTP mode (Express server on port 5000)

Architecture

Tool Pattern

All tools extend BaseTool (src/tools/base-tool.ts) which provides:

  • apiType: Set to ApiType.DATA or ApiType.PROJECT (defaults to DATA)
  • toolName(name): Prefixes with API type (e.g., DATA_getDomainKeywords)
  • registerTool(server): Abstract method each tool implements
  • annotations(kind): Returns MCP tool annotations for one of 'read' | 'write' | 'writeIdempotent' | 'destructive'. An ESLint no-restricted-syntax rule blocks any server.registerTool(...) call whose options object doesn't declare annotations — use this.annotations(...) on every new tool.
  • HTTP helpers:
    • makeGetRequest(path, params) — GET with query params
    • makeBinaryGetRequest(path, params, mimeType?) — GET that returns a binary blob as an MCP embedded resource (used for ZIP/image responses)
    • makePostRequest(path, queryParams, formParams) — POST multipart/form-data; formParams may contain Blob/File values which are passed through as-is for file uploads
    • makeJsonPostRequest(path, body) — POST with Content-Type: application/json
    • makeBodylessPostRequest(path) — POST with no body and no Content-Type. Use this for endpoints that reject Content-Type: application/json + {} (e.g. reset, recheck, delete on Project API /audit/{id}/…)
    • makePutRequest(path, body) — PUT with JSON body
    • makePatchRequest(path, queryParams, body) — PATCH with JSON body
    • makeDeleteRequest(path, params) — DELETE with query params
    • makeJsonDeleteRequest(path, body) — DELETE with JSON body
  • transformFilterParams(): Converts filter_volume_from to filter[volume][from] for API calls

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
