swift-ai-sdk: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

swift-ai-sdk AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from teunlao/swift-ai-sdk. It costs 2,538 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A project guide for Swift AI SDK, a Swift Package Manager library that aims to match the behavior of Vercel’s TypeScript AI SDK. It describes the source of truth, repository layout, upstream tracking, APIs, streaming, providers, errors, tools, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when implementing or checking Swift AI SDK features, matching request and response behavior, handling streaming or providers, updating tests, or comparing work with the pinned TypeScript source.
Why use it?
It helps an agent preserve compatibility with the TypeScript library when changing the Swift version. It also clarifies which files contain verified progress and which upstream files are read-only references.

This is teunlao/swift-ai-sdk's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on swift-ai-sdk itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything swift-ai-sdk configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02538 $0.02538
Opus 5 $0.01269 $0.01269
Sonnet 5 $0.00508 $0.00508
Haiku 4.5 $0.00254 $0.00254

Measured 7d ago against content hash a4cde5861ae9, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

swift-ai-sdk AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Mission

Swift AI SDK is a SwiftPM port of the Vercel AI SDK. The goal is upstream behavior parity: public APIs, request shapes, response parsing, streaming order, errors, tools, usage, defaults, and tests should match the TypeScript source unless this file or plan/design-decisions.md records an intentional Swift-specific contract.

Source Of Truth

  • Package.swift is the source of truth for products, targets, dependencies, platforms, and test targets.
  • Sources/** and Tests/** are the implementation truth.
  • upstream/UPSTREAM.md records the pinned Vercel AI SDK baseline.
  • upstream/PROGRESS.md and upstream/providers/*.md record verified parity evidence, gaps, and shipped milestones.
  • apps/docs/** is the Starlight documentation site.
  • external/** is a local, read-only upstream reference. Do not make runtime code, tests, docs builds, scripts, or release flows depend on external/**.
  • plan/** contains process notes and historical design context. Use it for background, but prefer current code, Package.swift, and upstream/** when facts differ.
  • .archive/**, .trash/**, .staging/**, .sessions/**, .validation/**, .orchestrator/**, .upstream/**, and .taskmaster/** are local/temporary unless a user explicitly asks to inspect them.

CLAUDE.md must remain a relative symlink to AGENTS.md. Do not reintroduce a second copied guide.

Repository Shape

Root package:

  • Swift tools version: Swift 6.0.
  • Platforms: macOS 13, iOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16.
  • Package dependency: swift-argument-parser.
  • Main products include AISDKProvider, AISDKProviderUtils, SwiftAISDK, AISDKJSONSchema, AISDKZodAdapter, EventSourceParser, provider libraries, and the playground executable.

Core targets:

  • Sources/AISDKProvider: foundation contracts matching @ai-sdk/provider. Keep this layer dependency-free.
  • Sources/AISDKProviderUtils: provider utilities matching @ai-sdk/provider-utils; depends on provider contracts plus local helpers.
  • Sources/SwiftAISDK: high-level SDK matching ai; owns generate/stream, object generation, tools, agents, registry, middleware, telemetry, UI message streams, uploads, reranking, and convenience APIs.
  • Sources/EventSourceParser: SSE parser.
  • Sources/AISDKJSONSchema and Sources/AISDKZodAdapter: schema support.
  • Sources/*Provider: provider packages. Keep provider-specific request, auth, streaming, warnings, metadata, and decode behavior inside the provider target unless a shared upstream contract requires core support.
  • Sources/SwiftAISDKPlayground: manual CLI playground.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
