gaia-ui: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

gaia-ui AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from theexperiencecompany/gaia-ui. It costs 2,960 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A contribution guide for Gaia UI, a reusable interface-component library. It explains where to add a component, how to register it, and how to create preview examples.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating a component file, adding its registry entry, declaring dependencies, or building its preview.
Why use it?
It prevents new components from being added in only one place and missing the library's registry or previews.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02960 $0.02960
Opus 5 $0.01480 $0.01480
Sonnet 5 $0.00592 $0.00592
Haiku 4.5 $0.00296 $0.00296

Security

Grade A, and why

gaia-ui AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Hey there! Welcome to the Gaia UI library. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about adding new components, maintaining design consistency, and keeping things beautiful.

Quick Start: Adding a New Component

When you add a new component, you'll need to touch a few places. Here's the checklist:

1. Create the Component File

Add your component to registry/new-york/ui/your-component.tsx. This is where the actual component code lives.

registry/
└── new-york/
    └── ui/
        └── your-component.tsx  ← Your new component

2. Register It

Open registry.json in the project root and add your component to the items array:

{
  "name": "your-component",
  "type": "registry:ui",
  "title": "Your Component",
  "description": "A brief, compelling description of what this component does.",
  "dependencies": ["any-npm-packages"],
  "registryDependencies": ["icons", "other-gaia-components"],
  "files": [
    {
      "path": "registry/new-york/ui/your-component.tsx",
      "type": "registry:ui"
    }
  ]
}

3. Add Preview Components

Create preview examples in components/previews/your-component/:

components/
└── previews/
    └── your-component/
        ├── default.tsx          ← Basic usage example
        ├── with-variants.tsx    ← Different variants
        └── custom-example.tsx   ← Any other demos

4. Write the Documentation

Create a docs page at content/docs/components/your-component.mdx:

---
title: Your Component
description: What it does and why someone would use it.
---

<ComponentPreview name="your-component/default" />

## Usage

Show how to use it.

## Installation

<Tabs defaultValue="automatic" className="mt-4">
  <!-- Add both automatic and manual installation options -->
</Tabs>

## Props

Document all the props in a table.

5. Update Navigation (if needed)

If you're adding a new category or the component needs special placement, update lib/navigation.ts.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
