copilot-instructions: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/tdd-verification.instructions.md

copilot-instructions tdd-verification.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from ThiagoGuislotti/copilot-instructions. It costs 296 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A test-first verification guide for code changes and bug fixes. TDD, or test-driven development, means checking the expected failing and passing tests around an implementation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan validation commands, run focused tests, and review whether a code change has enough verification evidence.
Why use it?
It prevents a change from being treated as finished just because the code was written. The required commands and checkpoints provide evidence that the behavior works.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00296 $0.00296
Opus 5 $0.00148 $0.00148
Sonnet 5 $0.00059 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00030 $0.00030

Measured 3d ago against content hash bd63e0b5c67a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

copilot-instructions tdd-verification.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

TDD And Verification

Use this instruction for code-bearing work and bug fixes that change runtime behavior.

Rules:

  • Plan work with explicit validation commands and checkpoints before implementation.
  • Prefer red/green style checkpoints when the task changes behavior, tests, or bug outcomes.
  • Do not claim completion from implementation alone; completion requires verification evidence.
  • Use targeted validation first, then broader repository validation.
  • Keep verification commands scoped to the changed area whenever practical.

Planner expectations:

  • every code-bearing work item must declare at least one validation command
  • every code-bearing work item should declare at least one executable checkpoint
  • checkpoints should make expected outcome explicit: expected-fail, expected-pass, or expected-verified

Execution expectations:

  • implement the smallest safe change that satisfies the current work item
  • preserve or improve testability
  • keep feedback loops short

Review expectations:

  • reject completion claims that do not have matching validation evidence
  • call out missing or weak verification as a real quality issue, not a documentation nit

Exceptions:

  • POC, spike, or informal-test work may relax strict red/green discipline only when the user explicitly says so.
  • Even in exceptions, targeted verification and honest status reporting remain mandatory.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
