OpenMAIC: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

OpenMAIC AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from THU-MAIC/OpenMAIC. It costs 430 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for coding agents working on the OpenMAIC project. They define code-review priorities, severity levels, context, and which changes reviewers should report.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when reviewing pull requests or making changes in the THU-MAIC/OpenMAIC repository, especially when judging issue severity and scope.
Why use it?
They give an agent project-specific rules so it does not treat wording or style preferences as runtime defects. They also help reviewers focus on newly introduced problems.

About the project

OpenMAIC is a multi-agent classroom platform that uses agents to plan, build, and revise interactive courses from prompts and uploaded materials. It is designed for immersive learning experiences and supports course components such as slides, quizzes, interactives, projects, images, video, voices, and PowerPoint imports, with catalogue skills covering its workflows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00430 $0.00430
Opus 5.5 $0.00172 $0.00172
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00086 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00043 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

OpenMAIC AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Agent Guidance

Guidance for coding agents working in this repository, including the automated Codex review that runs on every non-draft pull request. The contribution workflow is in CONTRIBUTING.md.

Code Review Rules

Severity

  • P1 is only for problems that produce wrong behavior at runtime: user-visible breakage, data loss, data exposed across owners, an authentication or access-control bypass, a storage migration that fails on an existing database, a published package that ships broken, or a leaked secret.
  • Inaccuracies that only affect documentation, comments, skill text or the PR description are at most P2. Do not report wording that cannot cause a failure or a wrong action.
  • Do not report pure style, naming or readability preferences.

Context and scope

  • Read the PR description before reviewing. Do not raise an issue the description already accounts for (handled in another PR or issue, or a deliberate trade-off with its reason) unless you can show that explanation is wrong.
  • Do not raise again an issue whose thread already has a reply explaining why it stays.
  • When reviewing new commits, report only problems introduced or exposed by the new or changed code. Do not add edge cases on code the push did not touch.
  • Do not report pre-existing behavior that the PR does not change.
  • When a fix needs changes outside the PR (callers, documentation, other packages), name the file paths.

Focus areas

  • Owner scoping: reads and writes of courses, sessions, materials and settings stay within the requesting owner.
  • Storage schema changes (packages/@openmaic/storage): compatible with databases that are already deployed.
  • Published packages (packages/@openmaic/*): a change to published behavior comes with the version bump described in Changing a Published Package.
  • Provider neutrality: shared layers do not hard-code a specific model or service vendor; vendor-specific behavior stays in that provider's module.
  • Server-side requests to user-supplied URLs go through the existing URL guard.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
