agent-skills-best-practice: Instructions file for Kiro

.kiro/steering/tech.md

agent-skills-best-practice tech.md is an instructions file for Kiro from timwukp/agent-skills-best-practice. It costs 320 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions and validation commands for building and installing coding-agent skills. It covers the Python-based checks, dependencies, naming rules, and continuous integration checks used by the repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install tooling, validate one skill or all skills, understand the repository's technology requirements, and follow its contribution rules.
Why use it?
It removes guesswork about how to validate a skill or install it into Kiro. It also helps catch invalid metadata, naming, or file-length problems before changes are submitted.

Instructions file for Kiro

Written for Kiro: installed under .kiro/.

This is timwukp/agent-skills-best-practice's own configuration. It tells Kiro how to work on agent-skills-best-practice itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything agent-skills-best-practice configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is python3 skills-workshop/scripts/quick_validate.py skills/skills/<name>.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00320 $0.00320
Opus 5 $0.00160 $0.00160
Sonnet 5 $0.00064 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Measured yesterday against content hash ebdec8782936, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-skills-best-practice tech.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Technology Stack

This is primarily a documentation and examples repository; the only runtime dependency is Python for tooling.

Dependencies

  • Python 3.10+ with pyyaml (see requirements.txt) — used by the skill validation script.
  • Some individual skills declare their own dependencies inside their folders (e.g. requirements.txt in slack-gif-creator, mcp-builder).

Common Commands

# Install tooling dependencies
pip install -r requirements.txt

# Validate one skill
python3 skills-workshop/scripts/quick_validate.py skills/skills/<name>

# Validate all skills (same loop CI runs)
for d in skills/skills/*/; do
  [ -f "${d}SKILL.md" ] && python3 skills-workshop/scripts/quick_validate.py "$d"
done

# Install skills into Kiro
./install.sh hello-world api-design # or --all

CI

GitHub Actions (.github/workflows/validate-skills.yml) runs quick_validate.py against every skill on push and pull request. Validation enforces the Agent Skills spec (frontmatter fields, kebab-case naming, name matches folder, length limits) and the 500-line SKILL.md body limit.

Repository Rules

  • No binary document files (PDF, PPTX, DOCX — gitignored).
  • No PII, customer data, credentials, or secrets.
  • New content is MIT; skills imported from anthropics/skills remain Apache 2.0.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
