open-strix AGENTS.md

A set of coding instructions for the open-strix project, covering Python use, code quality, testing, types, and monitoring. It tells the coding agent which tools and practices to follow while working in the repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing Python code, installing dependencies, writing tests, defining types, or adding monitoring. It is also a reference for keeping implementations clear and checking boundaries between systems.
Why use it?
It reduces inconsistent development choices, such as running Python with the wrong tool or testing only isolated pieces. It also makes the project’s coding and review expectations explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00156 $0.00156
Opus 5 $0.00078 $0.00078
Sonnet 5 $0.00031 $0.00031
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00016

Security

Grade A, and why

open-strix AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Python

  • Use uv always to access anything python, uv add to install, uv run to run anything
  • Write frequent but clear and terse comments
  • Generally don't catch exceptions. In a web context, let the top-level handler catch it. Only use try/except if you're in a context that doesn't handle errors. It's sometimes fine to catch exceptions, in places where that's the most expedient way to gain information.
  • Focus on writing clear code that's easy to follow.

Quality

  • Use higher level tests to ensure that code works. Focus tests on things that are likely to break, like the boundaries between systems.
  • Use types extensively to maintain contracts and enforce logic.
  • Use monitoring to observe how the agent works.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
