CLAUDE.md

linear-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from tlaakso07/linear-mcp. It costs 327 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project instruction file for building linear-mcp, an MCP server that connects coding agents to Linear, a tool for tracking issues, projects, and teams. It describes development rules, security requirements, testing, and completion checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Guiding implementation of Linear tools, including issue and project actions, authentication, retries, pagination, tests, and publishing.
Why use it?
It gives contributors a shared standard for building and releasing the server safely and reliably.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00327 $0.00327
Opus 5 $0.00163 $0.00163
Sonnet 5 $0.00065 $0.00065
Haiku 4.5 $0.00033 $0.00033

Measured 5d ago against content hash 13b4bb9a4ac2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

linear-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CLAUDE.md — linear-mcp

Production-grade, open-source MCP server for Linear. Project 2 of 3. Full architecture & rationale: ../../06-Portfolio-Build-Plan.md (Project 2 section). Career context: ../../CLAUDE.md.

This is a PUBLIC artifact

It's open-sourced (MIT) and published to npm — it's the headline FDE deliverable. Hold a high quality bar: clean README, architecture diagram, one-line install, demo GIF/Loom.

Build conventions

  • TypeScript, MCP server on @modelcontextprotocol/sdk.
  • zod schemas for every tool — both input and output.
  • 6–10 tools: search / get / create / update / comment, list teams / projects.
  • Resilience is the differentiator: OAuth/token handling, rate-limit handling, retries w/ exponential backoff, pagination, idempotency, structured recoverable errors.
  • Tool-use evals (right tool, right args, across N scenarios) — reuse the EvalOps harness (evalops-sdk).
  • Tests with Vitest; GitHub Actions CI; publish to npm + list in an MCP registry.

Secrets

LINEAR_API_KEY (personal key for dev/tests), ANTHROPIC_API_KEY (reference agent + evals). OAuth app is a later hardening step.

Definition of done

Public repo + npm package + registry listing, green CI, tool-use eval suite, Loom of a live multi-step task.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
