Repository instructions for GoalBuddy, an installable package that provides skills and agents for Codex and Claude Code. They define where shared skills, agent definitions, commands, scripts, and plugin files belong.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing GoalBuddy’s skills, agent definitions, commands, installer scripts, plugin manifests, or local goal-board surface.
Why use it?
They keep the two integrations aligned and prevent duplicate skill content or incorrect package boundaries.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00628 $0.00628
Opus 5 $0.00314 $0.00314
Sonnet 5 $0.00126 $0.00126
Haiku 4.5 $0.00063 $0.00063

Measured 5d ago against content hash efc883e20d4b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

goalbuddy AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

GoalBuddy is an npm package that installs into Codex (default) and Claude Code. Keep the repo layout and package boundary clear.

Repo Shape

  • goalbuddy/ is the canonical installable skill payload (used by both Codex and Claude Code).
  • goalbuddy/agents/ holds Codex TOML agent definitions (goal_*.toml).
  • plugins/goalbuddy/agents/ holds Claude Code markdown subagents (goal-*.md).
  • goalbuddy/scripts/ stays inside the skill because installed skill instructions call those scripts.
  • internal/ is package and development infrastructure, not skill content.
  • plugins/goalbuddy/ is the repo-local plugin scaffold. It contains:
    • .codex-plugin/plugin.json — Codex plugin manifest.
    • .claude-plugin/plugin.json — Claude Code plugin manifest.
    • skills/goalbuddy/ — shared skill payload.
    • agents/ — Claude Code agent definitions (markdown).
    • commands/ — Claude Code slash command definitions (markdown).
  • $goal-maker and the legacy CLI name are kept as compatibility aliases generated by the installer; do not add a second tracked skill payload.
  • goalbuddy/surfaces/local-goal-board/ is the built-in local board surface. There is no public extension catalog.

Improvement Surfaces

When improving this repo, consider README, goalbuddy/SKILL.md, generated $goal-maker compatibility behavior, templates, checker behavior, CLI UX, plugin UX (both Codex and Claude Code), package contents, local board behavior, and site/docs copy. Do not assume a request only touches code.

Package Rules

  • Keep the runtime dependency-free unless there is a strong reason.
  • Keep goalbuddy/ installable as the canonical skill directory.
  • Keep installation working for both Codex (default) and Claude Code (--target claude).
  • Keep $goal-maker working as a generated compatibility alias until the migration window ends.
  • Keep package-only CLI and tests under internal/.
  • Do not commit local docs/goals/ run artifacts unless explicitly requested.
  • Run npm run check before claiming implementation is complete.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
