better-agent-terminal: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

better-agent-terminal AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from tony1223/better-agent-terminal. It costs 772 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for coding agents working in the better-agent-terminal repository, focused on package management, project rules, verification, and IPC compatibility. IPC means communication between separate parts of an application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when installing dependencies, type-checking, compiling, testing sidecar or Rust code, changing IPC-related code, or following project-specific rules.
Why use it?
They help agents follow the repository’s pnpm workflow and check that changes do not break builds, tests, or communication between components.

This is tony1223/better-agent-terminal's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on better-agent-terminal itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything better-agent-terminal configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00772 $0.00772
Opus 5 $0.00386 $0.00386
Sonnet 5 $0.00154 $0.00154
Haiku 4.5 $0.00077 $0.00077

Measured 9d ago against content hash 15611724d466, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

better-agent-terminal AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md - Project Guidelines

Follow the project guidance in CLAUDE.md. The most important operational notes are repeated here for agents that load AGENTS.md first.

Package Management

  • This repository uses pnpm. Do not use npm install, npm ci, or npx for project workflows.
  • The pinned package manager is declared in package.json (packageManager: [email protected]).
  • Use pnpm install --frozen-lockfile for reproducible installs.
  • Use pnpm exec <tool> instead of npx <tool>.
  • Keep pnpm-lock.yaml committed and do not reintroduce package-lock.json.
  • pnpm v10 blocks dependency lifecycle scripts unless explicitly allowed; required build-script packages are listed under pnpm.onlyBuiltDependencies in package.json.

Verification

  • Run pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false for type checking.
  • Run pnpm run compile for the standard build check.
  • Run pnpm run test:sidecar when touching Node sidecar resolution or runtime startup.
  • Run pnpm run check:tauri-rust when touching Rust/Tauri runtime code. Run pnpm run test:tauri-rust when touching Rust behavior covered by unit tests; the Windows test harness includes the required Common Controls v6 activation manifest.
  • For local packaging verification without macOS signing/notarization, run:
    • pnpm run tauri:build:debug

Project Rules

  • Do not replace the built-in status line implementation.
  • Renderer logs should use window.batAppAPI.debug.log(...); Tauri/backend logs should use the project logger/debug helpers.
  • Tauri logs live under <app-data>/logs/: renderer/Rust logs in debug.log, sidecar logs in sidecar.log. On macOS fresh Tauri installs this is usually ~/Library/Application Support/com.tonyq.better-agent-terminal/logs/debug.log; existing Electron migrations may use ~/Library/Application Support/BetterAgentTerminal/logs/debug.log. BAT_TAURI_DATA_DIR overrides this in dev/tests.
  • When modifying shared code such as stores, IPC handlers, or shared types, trace consumers before committing.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
