ai-workspace-system: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ai-workspace-system AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from tym83-ai/ai-workspace-system. It costs 388 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for an AI workspace system that manages project discovery, syncing, startup prompts, and shared rules for coding agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Configuring the workspace launcher, maintaining shared agent instructions, and defining safe project-sync behavior.
Why use it?
They help keep workspace syncing safe and prevent credentials, private machine details, or unsafe Git actions from entering the project.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: reads ~/.codex or $CODEX_HOME, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

This is tym83-ai/ai-workspace-system's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on ai-workspace-system itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ai-workspace-system configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00388 $0.00388
Opus 5 $0.00194 $0.00194
Sonnet 5 $0.00078 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00039 $0.00039

Measured 7d ago against content hash 0ad6645218f2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-workspace-system AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AI Workspace System Agent Notes

This repository owns the local project launcher, sync workflow, bootstrap prompts, and shared AI workspace conventions.

Goals

  • Keep local projects discoverable from configured project roots.
  • Support both Codex and Claude Code without duplicating instructions.
  • Keep automatic sync safe by default.
  • Keep reusable prompts, scripts, and docs versioned without machine-specific values.

Safety Rules

  • Do not put credentials, auth files, sessions, logs, sqlite state, or raw conversation history into Git.
  • Do not make scheduled sync auto-commit by default.
  • Do not force-push.
  • Do not change existing project remotes silently.
  • For mirror/upstream repos, preserve upstream remotes and add organization remotes explicitly.
  • Do not hardcode a maintainer's home path, GitHub organization, project names, or private helper scripts in this repository.

Configuration Rules

  • Local machine config lives in ~/.config/ai-workspace/config.
  • config/config.example must stay generic and safe to publish.
  • Use workspace-configure to collect machine-specific values interactively.
  • Keep generated logs under $XDG_STATE_HOME or ~/.local/state, not inside this repository.

Instruction Conventions

  • AGENTS.md is the canonical shared project instruction file.
  • CLAUDE.md should import @AGENTS.md and add Claude-specific notes only when needed.
  • Global Codex guidance lives in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md.
  • Global Claude guidance lives in ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md and optional ~/.claude/rules/.

Verification

  • Run bash -n bin/* after editing shell scripts.
  • Run workspace-sync --dry-run after changing sync logic.
  • Search for personal values before publishing.
  • Keep docs and templates aligned with script behavior.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
