ai-project-starter: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ai-project-starter AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from ucsahinn/ai-project-starter. It costs 314 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for an AI coding project starter: a set of rules for preparing project context, documentation, agent instructions, and guardrails before coding begins.

In plain words
What is it for?
Preparing an AI-ready project, defining working rules, organizing skill documentation, and checking changes before they are committed.
Why use it?
They give the agent a clear source of truth and workflow while preventing secrets, private data, generated files, and unrequested publishing from entering the repository.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Codex.

This is ucsahinn/ai-project-starter's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on ai-project-starter itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ai-project-starter configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00314 $0.00314
Opus 5 $0.00157 $0.00157
Sonnet 5 $0.00063 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00031 $0.00031

Measured 6d ago against content hash 869aa4b2e7f6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-project-starter AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AI Project Starter Operating Rules

Mission

This repository maintains a public Codex skill for creating AI-coding-ready project context, starter documentation, agent instruction files, and vibe-coding guardrails before implementation starts.

Source Of Truth

  1. Current user request.
  2. Current repository files.
  3. .agents/skills/ai-project-starter/SKILL.md.
  4. Skill references and templates.
  5. Official provider documentation for current tool behavior.
  6. Public repo docs in docs/.

Workflow

  • Use rg or rg --files first.
  • Keep SKILL.md concise; move detail to references/, templates/, or scripts/.
  • Prefer official docs for tool-specific behavior.
  • Keep examples fictional and public-safe.
  • Validate the skill after edits.
  • Preserve unrelated user work.

Hard Boundaries

  • Do not store secrets, credentials, private prompts, customer data, internal company data, logs, screenshots, private URLs, or local paths.
  • Do not add generated build output, archives, installers, dependency folders, or local agent state.
  • Do not commit, push, publish, release, or deploy unless explicitly asked.
  • Do not broaden the repository into an app or service; this is a skill and documentation package.

Validation

Run after skill edits:

npm run check

Before commit or push, inspect git status --short, stage explicit files, review git diff --cached, and run a secret scan when available.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
