kafka-mcp-enterprise-server: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

kafka-mcp-enterprise-server AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from vaquarkhan/kafka-mcp-enterprise-server. It costs 1,045 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for a Python reference implementation of Kafka MCP Enterprise, a guarded interface for interacting with Kafka-style services.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when modifying the reference implementation, checking KIP-1318 alignment, reviewing authorisation and safety controls, or running its supported commands.
Why use it?
They define the project’s limits and security rules, including the order of permission checks and the fact that it uses an in-memory backend rather than a live Kafka broker.

This is vaquarkhan/kafka-mcp-enterprise-server's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on kafka-mcp-enterprise-server itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01045 $0.01045
Opus 5 $0.00522 $0.00522
Sonnet 5 $0.00209 $0.00209
Haiku 4.5 $0.00104 $0.00104

Measured 10d ago against content hash 6e396e61ab75, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

kafka-mcp-enterprise-server AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md - Kafka MCP Enterprise (KIP-1318 reference)

Instructions for any coding agent (Cursor, Kiro, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT/Codex, Google Gemini/Antigravity, Claude Code, Windsurf, etc.).

What this repo is

  • Python stdlib-only reference for KIP-1318 / KAFKA-20436.
  • PyPI: kafka-mcp-enterprise · CLI: kafka-mcp-enterprise · import: kafka_mcp.
  • Not the official Apache Kafka Java MCP server. Production language in the KIP is Java.
  • In-memory Kafka backend for conformance - not a live broker client.
  • Scope honesty: see doc/kip-alignment.md (stdio-only; no Streamable HTTP / EOS / distributed state in this reference).

Non-negotiables

  1. Fail-closed 9-step order: auth → deny → allow/readonly → scope → policy → taint → approval → rate limit → circuit breaker execute.
  2. Broker ACLs are load-bearing; MCP guardrails complement them. Do not claim MCP-only authz.
  3. Taint/IFC is best-effort - never market as complete prompt-injection prevention.
  4. Keep zero hard third-party deps for core (kafka_mcp/). OTel is optional extra only.
  5. Do not commit internal/ or CURSOR-BUILD-INSTRUCTIONS.md (gitignored).
  6. Destructive tools must stay behind allow-list + approval in production guidance.
  7. After behavior changes: python run_tests.py must stay 302/302.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
